Girls on Film: Catherine McNeil, Vogue Germany, Aug. '09

If you look up the term femme fatale - the inspiration for this Vogue Germany spread - it says "an alluring and seductive woman whose charms ensnare her lovers in bonds of irresistible desire, often leading them into compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations." Catherine McNeil is it. She's the epitome of it - womanly, rebellious, sexual, and capable of making men moan. She gets more into character by wearing all black and leather Balmain, Nina Ricci, Alexander Wang, and Yves Saint Laurent. It's leather heaven and this Australian model wears it like no other. Product Review: Benefit Badgal Mascara in Plum

As far as cult beauty buys go Benefit's Badgal Lash mascara, (£14.50), has long been a contender for the prize for the best mascara out there. If you want big, bad lashes in the darkest coal black this is your girl. Now in the wake of the coloured mascara trend, they've launched a version in deep plum. Frankly I couldn't have been more exited if David Beckham himself had delivered it to my door.

Badgal Plum, (£14.50), has the same fat brush and voluminous formula as the original. The rich plum colour looks luxurious against blue, green and grey eyes. However, if you have brown eyes be warned that the colour really doesn't stand out much. It's ideal if you have fair skin and blonde, pale brown or red hair as the dark plum shade looks interesting but not too wild to wear to the office. Despite the deep colour it's actually quite subtle once you apply it and is rather like wearing a dark brown mascara, but of course much more this season.

Personally, I'm a black mascara addict and didn't feel like the plum colour gave my eyes as much stand-out power as the original Badgal. Having said that the blonde Femme Fatale looked amazing in this colour, and so long as your features aren't too dark it's a great alternative to navy blue if you want to show off your catwalk credentials.

Product Review: Benefit Posietint

I have been hearing good things about Benefit's new Posietint, (£22.50) for a while now, but it wasn't until my friend, the Femme Fatale went for a Benefit make-over, in store, that I was really tempted. Despite having only had four hours sleep, she'd never looked so fresh. I was a little jealous, to say the least.

Now I'm a fully fledged convert. The joy of Posietint is that, like many of Benefit's retro-cool products, it works on most shades of skin. You may need to use quite a lot though, if you have have a dark or olive complexion.

Posietint is a stain, that, like the pioneering Benetint, (£22.50), can be used on cheeks or lips. I like the dark stain that Benetint gives on lips, but I prefer Posietint for cheeks only. Don't be fooled by the dark cerise shade in the pot – as soon as you paint it on, the colour looks sheer and very natural.

At the Benefit shop, they applied it under the Femme Fatale's makeup, giving a glow-from-within appearance, that looked really healthy and pretty. I tend to use it both under, and over, a sheer base, such as a tinted moisturiser, for a subtle, daytime flush.

Posietint also works well mixed with my beloved High Beam, (£15.50), for a shimmery highlighter blush, in the evening. I like to dot it on the cheekbones, over a powder blush, for a catwalk-inspired, contoured effect.

I'm predicting this is set to become the new staple in makeup artist's tool kits, everywhere. Blooming lovely!

Fancy Femme Fatales Enjoy Fendi Fete

The Rodeo Drive Fendi store underwent a redesign and threw a little party to celebrate it in LA last night bringing out starlets, a pregnant model and one person whose dress matched the scenery. Lindsay Lohan looked older than her 21 years (not anything new) in her asset-enhancing dress while Mandy Moore went with something a little more loose-fitting to go with her cute smile. Camila Alves was the pregnant model in question, taking a night off from her man Matthew to look at some pretty clothes. Rose McGowan dressed to match the backdrop but spiced it up with her V-Day appropriate red shoes. All the gorgeous ladies were sans date last night, but I'm sure there were more than enough pretty things in the store to keep them company.

2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Tina Fey

Tina looked retrolicious on the red carpet tonight, with her hair rolled into lovely '50s curls and sporting rose lipstick and blush. Angelina Jolie Is Going Gucci

Despite what she may have said in the past, Angelina Jolie's career isn't slowing down anytime soon. Last week we learned that she'll be taking Charlize Theron's place in The Tourist and she may be adding another femme fatale role to her resume. Jolie is in talks to take the lead in Ridley Scott's Gucci.

Jolie would play Patrizia Reggiano, who spent 29 years in prison for plotting the murder of her ex husband, Maurizio Gucci. The script is still being reworked and Ridley's search for his Maurizio continues - apparently Leonardo DiCaprio has been approached but has yet to sign on.

I could absolutely see Jolie in this role, and in general I like when she can show more of her acting chops and less of her kung fu skills. Bonus: Angelina and Leo would make for one hot big screen couple.

Bella Donna: Lana Turner

Her sex appeal may have garnered lots of attention, but Lana Turner, née Julia Jean Mildred Francis Turner, was more than just a pin-up girl with a femme fatale image. The well-coiffed actress, who was discovered sipping Coke at a cafe during her high school years, was often referred to as the "Sweater Girl" for her tight-fitting top in They Won't Forget, a film made early in her career.

While Lana was quite an accomplished actress and Academy Award winner, her personal life was tumultuous, to say the least. She was married eight times and struggled with her own personal demons. In fact, she credits her longtime hairstylist and friend, Eric Root, with saving her life. "My hairdresser, Eric Root, took one look at me and said: 'Okay, that's it.' " she told People in 1982. Fab Ad: Marion Cotillard Returns as Lady Dior For Fall '09

Lady Dior's Spring '09 ad with Marion Cotillard was so successful, the French actress is back for Fall. But this time around, New York City, not Paris, is the setting. Photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the cinematic image of Marion as "Lady Red," the mirror suggesting a double life. A second scene - Marion getting ready for her close-up as a femme fatale - is slated for later in the season. These ads will debut in August issues and will be plastered around Paris during Fashion Week in October. What are your thoughts on this first one?

How-To: Wear Black Lip Gloss

A month or so back, I told you about the black lip trend this Fall and gave some options for lipsticks and glosses, should you care to venture onto the dark side. I spent the better part of yesterday deciding whether there were any circumstances under which I could wear black lip gloss (Halloween withstanding).

Especially for small lips, it helps to layer a pearly shade on top of a black lip gloss, which is not an easy feat as the result is usually a weird shade of greige, which is even more zombie looking than straight up black. But there's hope: At the Spring shows, Vivienne Westwood sent teal-black lips down the runway and models for Topshop Unique wore a purple ebony color, hinting that wearable black is in our future.

So for now, my secret concoction for a shimmery black cherry is as follows: Two layers of Benefit Benetint ($28) followed by one layer of Armour Beauty Femme Fatale Lip Gloss ($19) followed by a dollop of Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Touche Brilliance in Pure Diamond ($29). Except it's not a secret anymore, because I just told you.
