2010 CFDA Fashion Award Nominees Announced!

I rocked my votes and now the 2010 CFDA Fashion Award nominees are in. We have to wait until June 7 to learn the results, but without further ado, here they are: Donna Karan, Alexander Wang, and Marc Jacobs for Womenswear Designer of the Year. In the Menswear Designer of the Year category are Tom Ford, Michael Bastian, and David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone. Fab favorite Alexis Bittar will be competing against Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Accessory Designer of the Year.

Michael Kors will have the honor of receiving The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, Burberry's Christopher Bailey will be awarded the International Award, and model Iman is getting the Fashion Icon Award. Finally, the late Alexander McQueen will receive the CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award.

Fab Flash: CFDA to Honour Alexander McQueen

Lee Alexander McQueen's death earlier this year is still sending ripples of sadness through the fashion world. Yesterday would have been his 41st birthday (check out a fab round up of his Spring pieces here) and the Council Of Fashion Designers Of America used the occasion to announce another tribute.

The British designer's final collection was shown at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month and his will now be awarded with a CFDA's special board of directors honour. It will be presented at the industry's annual gala in New York in June.

More nominees for the awards were announced with Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang battling it out for the womenswear gong, whilst Michael Kors will get the lifetime achievement award. Diane von Furstenberg was also voted in for a third term as president of the organisation. British Designer Christopher Bailey will be presented with the international award. For the Last Time . . . Karl Lagerfeld Staying Put at Chanel

Rumors have been circulating for a while now: Lanvin's Alber Elbaz to replace Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. Well, once and for all, Chanel is shooting down the talk. "Karl Lagerfeld is the creative designer of Chanel and has a long-term contract with the company. Replacing him is not an issue," a Chanel spokesperson said. Remember, Karl once said he will die with his boots on. But do you think Elbaz would be a good replacement if that day comes?

Madonna's Bright Future - Designing Sunnies With Dolce & Gabbana

Madonna recently added designer to her resume, so it's no surprise that she's now building on that new title. First she announced a juniors line with Macy's and now she's teaming up with Dolce & Gabbana for a collection of luxury sunglasses. Six sunglasses, ranging from $248 to $289, will have the new MDG logo on it. "We’re so excited. This further strengthens our relationship with Madonna, and it was a very constructive experience for us," gushed Gabbana.

What's more, Madonna stars in the mysteriously sexy ad campaign (left) shot by Steven Meisel, which will appear in magazines in May.

John Galliano Heads up Fashion Fringe

London just got another boost as a fashion capital as John Galliano has been enlisted as the new Fashion Fringe chairman. The eccentric designer has an impressive 26 year long career and is taking on his next challenge as a mentor, replacing previous chairman Donatella Versace.

What's more, his arrival is shaking up proceedings as he will be the sole judge of talent at the London Fashion Week competition. He told The Sunday Times, “I am hoping we find a rebel genius. I will look for someone who reminds me of me when I was starting out - someone original, unique, who has their own style and handwriting and isn’t afraid to try something new.”

I think this is great news for any budding designers as the head of Dior has certainly proved his worth to the fashion industry. He is already offering advice saying, “If you want easy, don’t pick fashion. Life is full of challenges, and it is how you deal with them and use them to help you grow that sets you apart. I am proof that you can break the rules, you can push fashion to the extreme, lose backers and still bounce back. If you have the determination and drive, plus talent and luck, then anything is possible if you want it enough.”

Madonna Dishes on Her Lourdes-Inspired Clothes For Macy's

While some of you are skeptical about Madonna's new clothing line, perhaps some solid details will sway you. The pop icon, known for her breakthrough ensembles on and off the stage, is now part of a multi-label fashion project called MG Icon. Her first project? A Macy's juniors line - targeting 13- to 25-year-olds - inspired by her daughter Lourdes Leon. “Lourdes has an incredible sense of style and her point of view on fashion has definitely been an inspiration for the line,” said Jeff Gennette, from Macy's.

The collection - dubbed Material Girl - will retail from $12 to $40 and will include apparel, footwear, handbags, and jewelry. Since it's inspired by her Mini-Me, we're guessing it'll probably include studs, faux leather, and graphic tees. The collection, debuting in August, will be promoted via online and print campaigns - wouldn't it be fun if Lourdes starred in the ads? If that sounds a little too teeny bopper for your taste, Madonna has more up her fashion sleeve including an upcoming designer sunglasses collab.

It's Official: Lindsay Lohan Out at Ungaro

It was a media doozy last year when fashion darling Esteban Cortezar left Ungaro, and the house hired Lindsay Lohan as its "artistic advisor." Now, one questionable Spring collection later, the celebrity designer has confirmed she is no longer with the fashion house. When asked why she wasn't present at Ungaro's Fall '10 runway show this week, Lohan responded, “Because I don’t work for them anymore. There's legal things going on; I can’t really discuss it." Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah also commented stating, "She's not involved in this [Fall '10] collection." Looks like it's the end of the road for Lohan and Ungaro - are you surprised?

Lindsay Lohan is Out at Ungaro

Rumours were circulating this morning that Lindsay Lohan might not be present at the Ungaro Autumn show today leaving chief designer Estrella Archs to bow alone. Well, she didn't turn up and reportedly was not even invited.

Speaking to WWD, Ungaro owner Asim Abdullah simply commented, "She's not involved in this collection."

Her appointment at the house has always been controversial. Her first (and only) collection received poor reviews despite her excuses. Trouble began brewing for Lindsay late last year when the CEO who appointed her resigned. Lindsay is currently in Paris attending shows including John Galliano where she caused such a scene that Carine Roitfeld made a sharp exit.

Olsenboye Delivers Another Adorable Collection For Spring
