Woohoo! Some good news amongst all the doom and gloom of the current financial climate. One of my favourite High Street stores, New Look, has just reported an increase in sales by 1.4%.

Another sad story in the fashion industry this morning as one of France's biggest names announces financial trouble. Christian Lacroix has reportedly filed for voluntary bankruptcy in an attempt to protect the company from creditors. The current economic crisis and company expansion has been blamed for the situation.

Once upon a time, spas used to be a therapeutic haven for the tired, stressed, (sure OK) and spoiled, but they were simple ways to indulge the mind and body in a little relaxation.
However, over the past decade or so, they have become a playground for those only who can afford extravagance. Long gone are the days of a reasonably priced manicure, pedicure or even a shoulder massage.

Last week Lanvin opened a womenswear store in London and Alber Elbaz used the event to pamper the ladies. Today Alber has spoken about the importance of luxury treats, despite the recession, particularly red lipstick. He said, "But, you know, it's almost like that moment when someone is told they have a disease.

It's all change for Lauren Conrad this year as she finishes shooting her final series of The Hills.
Yesterday it was announced that this wasn't the only thing coming to an end as her clothing line grinds to a halt. Lauren has been designing under her own name since Autumn 2007, but it seems the economic climate has affected its production.

London Fashion Week defended its place in the fashion calendar for Autumn 2009 with some of the best designs and shows in recent memory. The standard was very high, although measures were taken to adjust to the economic climate. Some argue that London played it too safe, but catwalks also presented designs which were more of an investment than a one-off splurge.

It has been reported, that 67 percent more British women are going blonde in an attempt to lift their spirits during this depressing economic darkness. It seems that although only ten percent of the population is naturally blonde, they feel that the lighter their hair, the lighter their mood. Celebrity hairstylist Andrew Barton says,
"I don't believe it is purely a coincidence that there's been a huge sales rise in blonde hair products during these tough financial times.

Over the festive period it was revealed that Chanel was another victim of the credit crunch. Reports suggested that they would have to let some staff go.
This week Karl Lagerfeld has spoken to the IHT about the effect of the economy on Chanel.

It's not surprising to hear that beauty sales have been on the decline this year. Afterall, we're facing a credit crunch and the economy is struggling to stay strong and healthy. However, according to WWD, the big guns in beauty (execs) are thinking of ways to keep beauty junkies shopping.
