At London Fashion Weekend, one of the trend shows was all about the brocade craze that will be big this Autumn. The Fall 2012 catwalks were full of embroidery, embellishment and jacquard prints, with Temperley London showing just how luxe this look can be. Last week, Christy Turlington gave a lesson in how to wear the trend without going too outrageous in a Stella McCartney trouser suit at the Conde Nast Traveler Celebration of The Visionaries, while on our side of the pond Olivia Palermo embraced the look in a pair Topshop Paisley Cigarette Trousers (£35) at Unique's Spring 2013 London Fashion Week show. Last night at the Met Gala in New York, Coco Rocha rocked a pair of vintage Givenchy bright yellow cropped trousers and matching beaded jacket previously owned by the late Elizabeth Taylor. The model took the trend to the red carpet, while over in London British model Kelly Brook showed how to wear primrose skinnies for a casual day out. Trend Alert: Zip Leggings

It's the details of items that make them for me. I like buttons and recently I've grown to love zip ankle trousers. There are a lot of leggings around at the moment with exposed zips on the ankle giving them a tight fit and stopping the ankles from growing saggy!

I have spotted a couple of pairs in Marks and Spencer and this pink style (£7) would be perfect for going out dancing! You could wear them with a funky, graphic print top for an '80s vibe. Alternatively, add an edgy feel to your ensemble with LNA's oil slick pair (£). How do you feel about zip leggings?

Trend Alert: Carrot Leg Trousers

This season trousers are very important and they, of course, have a new shape. Somewhere between harem pants and tailored trousers come the carrot leg. Their name comes from the shape as they are wide around the hips and then tailored to the ankle.

They're quite a smart addition to any wardrobe but can be dressed down with a printed t-shirt and a pair of funky flats. Add in a plaited belt for a retro feel.

Topshop have a couple of pairs in different shades from £38 or if you have a larger budget then why not invest in Philip Lim's high waisted style (£325)? Turn them up slightly and wear with a blazer for a smart summertime ensemble.

Trend Alert: Cropped Tailored Trousers

Way back in March I reported on the ankle grazer jeans trend which began to sweep the nation for Spring. On warmer days when it wasn't cold enough for full length trousers they made the perfect alternative. Now that we're edging in to Autumn the trend continues but with a slight twist.

For the cooler months the trend has taken over tailored trousers. The skinny fit formal wear has been cut slightly shorter to reveal your ankle boots and maybe even flash a bit of ankle!

The new style are slightly higher waisted than in previous seasons and nod to the jodhpur trend with slightly baggier hips. The shape is certainly more forgiving than previous skinny styles. If you have to wear office wear on a daily basis then this is a great way to make your smart ensemble slightly funkier without going too crazy.

Would You Wear Leather Trousers?

I'm not sure how much I'm in favour of certain Autumn trends. First of all there is the resurgence of loafers which have left me feeling a bit unsure (and it seems you are too) but now I'm left contemplating leather trousers. They appeared on the catwalk at Givenchy and Balenciaga and now even Principles are offering a pair.

Kate Moss famously wore a pair at Glastonbury last year and Agyness Deyn followed suit for T4 on the Beach. They are surely the least flattering item going and only for the very brave but would you wear leather trousers?

Trend Alert: Ankle Grazer Trousers

A new denim trend is sweeping the fashion world in time for Spring. There are a few names for the new length skinnies which are just longer than capri pants and just shorter than full length, they're being referred to as 'ankle grazers', '7/8ths' and 'cigarette pants'. The look is a classic style which was pioneered by style icon Audrey Hepburn and is now being led by denim-guru Kate Moss.

They were also spotted on the catwalk at Peter Jensen (far right), Betty Jackson (second left) and Rag & Bone to name but a few. A word of warning, unless you're blessed with super-skinny legs then they look best with a slight heel. This makes them the perfect summer office wear.
