Smoky Eyes Have Never Been So Simple

With the help of these smoky eye shadow palettes, getting that sultry, come-and-get-me eye makeup look has never been easier. All you have to do is blend the lightest colour just under the brow bone, use the second lightest shade all over the lid (stop at the crease), add the medium dark shadow to the crease (remembering to blend well) and you can deepen the crease and line your eyes with the darkest shadow. See, it's a cinch! Below are three of my favourite smoky eye palettes for a smouldering eye.

Laura Mercier Eye Colour Quad Storm Cloud (£26, don't worry, they ship to the UK) was a limited-edition quad that came out last Summer, so if you like it, you'll need to act fast (it's about to be discontinued) that includes four powder shadows designed to create a classic grey smoky eye. You can use each of the shadows alone or blend them together.

Chanel Les Ombres 4 Smoky Eyes (£33) is a rich in pigment powder shadow quad that contains four frost, matte and satin colours. You can use the shadows either wet or dry, and either way they spread easily and create a profound impact.

L'Oreal Wear Infinite Eyeshadow Quad In Smokey Eyes (£3.50) is an oldie but goodie product that won't break the bank. Colour is buildable and the shadows are silky soft. This one happens to be my favourite, but there are nine others available to suit any and all moods.

Love It or Hate It? Kylie's Smoky Eyes

A sultry Kylie Minogue was sharing her style secrets at William Baker's B Boy Underwear launch in London last night. Kylie opted for a rocker-chick look of smoky eyes, silver earrings and a black leather jacket. I love her eye makeup which is dramatic without being too bold, and the shimmery grey shade really picks up the green colour of her eyes.

Kylie's complexion positively glowed and it was enhanced by pale pink glossy lips. Messy hair is always very London, but I'm not sure about her pulled back pony or dark roots here. How do you feel about this look on Ms. Minouge?

How To: Keira's Sultry Smoky Eyes

Keira Knightley looked every inch the starlet as she attended the special Vogue screening of The Duchess, in New York last night. The actress looked typically flawless in a Chanel Haute Couture satin dress and severe side swept hair. Her makeup was a pretty take on the goth glamour trend this season with softly smoky eyes and minimal blush.

Her makeup artist for the night, Katie Lee, created this stunning look using Chanel products. She says “Keira’s...Chanel Haute Couture dress was the inspiration. When I saw the beautiful diamanté detailing on the shoulders, I thought it was the perfect time to use the Chanel Quadra eyeshadow in Smoky Eye."

“I started out with a really fine line of Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo, (£25), in Noir-Lamé next to the lashes" says Katie, of Keira's flatteringly dark eye makeup.
Next, Katie applied Chanel's Highlighter Face Pen, (£23) in Beige Rosé to the lid. She then lined Keira's lower lash line with Chanel Intense eye pencil, (£15), in Noir and blended with a small rounded brush.
Then the black shade of the Smoky Eye Quad, (£33) was applied to define the socket line and lash line. This made the look extra dramatic.
Finally Katie gave Keira her trademark long-lashed look by using tons of Exceptionnel de Chanel mascara, (£19.50), in Smoky Noir.

Love It or Hate It? Reese's Coiffed Christmas Look

Reese Witherspoon looked stunning at the LA premiere of Four Christmases last night. The star went for a classic Hollywood hair style with coiffed glossy waves in her signature bright blonde shade. This short style suits Reese's heart-shaped face and her do looked sophisticated without appearing overly old-fashioned.

Reese combined a barely-there base with warm, rust-coloured lipstick. I like her smoky eye makeup too which had an air of festivity with sparkly white shadow blended with charocoal grey colour and black kohl. How about you, what's your opinion of her beauty look?

Storming Twenties at Temperley

Mischa Barton, Rosamund Pike and Peaches Geldof witnessed the Temperley show at London 2009 Spring Fashion Week yesterday. The designer showed beautifully structured jackets, high-waist trousers, red-carpet worthy draped dresses, ruffled gowns and gorgeous asymmetrical cocktail frocks.

The beauty mood was dramatic as the models sported high-voltage smoky eyes in dark grey, stormy purple and coal black. The colour was taken right up to the brows for a modern effect, while black liner and strong brows balanced the look. Skin was fresh and natural, with a touch of creamy pink blush, and lips were almost bare in peony-pink lipstick with a hint of gloss.

The hair referenced the Great Gatsby era of the 20's with severe side partings giving way to slicked back hair. Optical flower headdresses in lilac and fuschia gave a nod to futuristic fantasies although various odds hats, in leopard print and black chiffon, rather detracted from the romance. Elsewhere, the slicked-back, almost boyish hair was the perfect antidote to Alice Temperley's ultra pretty creations. To see more images from the show, read more.

Which Eye Makeup Look Do You Like Most On Liz Hurley?

Last night at the GQ Awards in London, model, actress, Estee Lauder spokesperson and designer, Liz Hurley arrived on the red carpet looking striking in a pastel powder blue strapless dress with matching blue eye shadow. Her eyes have a smolder to them naturally, but when they're enhanced with black liner and grey, brown or blue shadows they pop even more. Out of these three eye makeup looks below, which do you think looks the loveliest on Liz?

Backstage Pass To LFW Autumn 2010: Erdem

The vibe backstage at the 2010 Autumn Erdem Fashion Show was frenzied but fun. After giving famed hairdresser Charles Worthington a friendly kiss hello (more later on how I know him), I was able to snag a moment with his head stylist Marc Trinder to discuss the look du jour. He described the inspiration behind the hairstyle as "fierce bohemian. Hair was once perfect, but is now destroyed and desheveled." To complete the look, the models are wearing Alice bands made from Erdem fabrics.

Makeup, which was created by Andrew Gallimore for MAC, was designed as a "worn in look" had a well- blended smoky eye stain and black liner as an anchor at the lash. Cheeks were pale and lips were patted with concealer and powder for a colourless effect.

STEP 1: Begin by prepping hair with Charles Worthington Front Row Stay Cool Heat Defence Spritz to protect from heat damage.
STEP 2: Then, backcomb hair just at the hairline. Next, gently smooth it over with a boar bristle brush and a light touch.
STEP 3: Sweep hair into a tight ponytail at the crown of the head and leave it tight. Then, apply Charles Worthington Front Row Rough and Tousled Salt Spray to the lengths for texture.
STEP 4: Work the lenghts of the ponytail into a tight fishtail plait and then twist it into a knot and secure with either a bobby pin, or tuck it into the hair band from the ponytail.
STEP 5: Lastly, pull out random pieces from the bun for a flyaway effect and pull the headband over the bun.
