To wrap up this years best of beauty polls, I wanted to find out your favourite brand of liquid eyeliner. From Amy Winehouse to Lauren Conrad, Kate Moss and Dita Von Teese, everyone has been seen wearing a cat-like winged-liner look. Love It or Hate It? Christina Aguilera's Hollywood Style

Superstar Christina Aguilera was wearing her bleach blonde hair super-sleek with a straight fringe at the Rock The Vote event, at Esquire House Hollywood Hills last night.

She's added a touch of rock chick nonchalance with kohl rimmed eyes, which I like paired with her slightly Debbie Harry-esque style. I'm not sure about her pan-stick foundation though, plus her hooped earrings and neon pink lipstick are unashamedly Barbie-girl, but very Christina.

Guyliner, Manscara...The Boys Are Back in Town

Boys in bands and indie men have been stealing our black eyeliners and smudgy kohl pencils for a while now – whether they're heading to a festival or just hanging out in Camden. The voice of middle England, aka The Telegraph, may be expressing subdued shock at the new 'guy-liner, man-scara' trend, but edgy London boys have been rocking the makeup look for the past few seasons.

British bad boy, Russell Brand is often photographed in eye makeup, although he covered up in dark glasses, for a night out at Boujis, last night. While Pete Doherty, The Killers' singer Brandon Flowers, The Horrors, and The Libertines, all regularly rock out in dark eyeliner and sometimes chipped black nail polish.

Guyliner is a black kohl pencil specifically designed for men, to make their eyes look bigger, or for a grunge-inspired rock look. Now I'm not sure why men need a specific eye liner all of their own, but I'm tempted to buy it for Mr Bella, just because of the name. The cosmetics brand, Taxi are also bringing out a concealer and lip balm, for men, later in the summer – all stocked at Superdrug.

Peter Kelly, the creator of Taxi's range for men, told The Telegraph, "We've developed essentials any guy would borrow from his other half. It's about subtle make-up rather than wanting to create the drag queen look."

Thing is, most of the cool, indie boys I know love to wear drag now. Plus, surely the whole point of a man wearing makeup (as oppose to just using good skincare), is to push the boundaries of what is and what isn't acceptable. Surely as soon as eyeliner...sorry...Guyliner, becomes the norm, then the boys in bands will have to find something else to draw attention to themselves.

Maybe Sophie Ellis-Bextor style rainbow false eyelashes, or catwalk-cool glitter on the eyelids, perhaps?

Trend Alert: Drawing the Line With Winged Eyeliner

From Lily Allen, to Kelly Osbourne, to our current beauty obsession – Alexa Chung – normally fresh-faced girls are taking inspiration from the catwalks and winging it, eyeliner-wise.

Thick, black liquid eyeliner is a favourite – as seen here on Jessica Stam at the Karl Lagerfeld show. There's a touch of the modern-day Cleopatra about it, plus it's also an easy-peasy way of looking like you've made an effort when time is short. I like Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner, (£4.99), from Boots. You need a steady hand though and be extra careful when lining the lower lashes, so you don't look over done.

A kohl pencil is easier and can look just as effective, especially if you layer. Start with a grey, like Chanel Le Crayon Kohl in Graphite, (£14), and draw along the inner rim of the lower lashes, extending it slightly at the outer corner. Extend horizontally across, rather than flicked up, to really open up the eyes. Next use the same colour on the upper lash line. Then, dampen a dark blue or black eyeshadow, such as MAC Nehru or Deep Truth, (£10), and use a flat angled brush to draw a thin line along the upper lashes. This looks dramatic, without that slightly cheap look that thick black eyeliner can sometimes create.

Navy or granite are the 'in' colours this season. Navy looks cool on brown or hazel eyes, whilst granite makes blue eyes look extra vivid. Experiment with colours and layering though, as it's all about finding a shade that suits.

Love It or Hate It? Kelly Osbourne's Glastonbury Look

Trend Alert: Bat-Wing Eyes at The Brit Awards

Winged eyeliner isn't just for Amy Winehouse anymore! At last night's 2009 Brit Awards, the most popular makeup looks from the leading ladies were smoky eyes, long, lush lashes and bat-wings. Alexa Chung had the most dramatic liner, Alesha Dixon had the most colourful, whilst Sara Cox and Gabriella Climi opted for a classic, extended line. It's great to see this look sticking around, as a little bat-wing doesn't scare me. Are you a fan of winged eyeliner?

How To: Perfect Dark Cat's Eyes

Dark smokey cat's eyes have emerged as one of the major beauty trends for Autumn 2010. All over the catwalks of Milan and now Paris- not to mention heaps of celebrities – lined graphic winged eye makeup has become the must-have look. I caught up with celebrity makeup artist Karen Adler to find out how to get the look. Karen counts everyone from Carey Mulligan, to Pixie Lott, Kylie and Danni Minogue among her clients.

The Trend: Karen explained, "I was amazed to see how the dark winged eyes donned the catwalks in Milan for Autumn. The challenge with this look is how to keep the shape all day. It's Pixie (Lott's) favourite and to keep the shape through performance has been essential. Check out her Cry Me Out video – It's all about layers."
Preparation: "Start with a Laura Mercier eye base. It acts as an amazing primer that evens out skin tone and gives your eyemake up staying power. Choose a colour that matches your tone."
Lashes:"Curl your lashes. The trick is to keep the eyes as open as possible."
Line It: "With a sharp khol eyeliner – I like Lancôme pencils, they are just the right texture- work the khol into your lash line. (Top tip: Whilst drawing the shape of the tick, follow the line of your jaw line as you get to the outer edges of your eyes for the perfectly flattering winged effect."
Work it in: "Blend with a small brush. As you do this you elongate the line always shaping up and out. This gives the lovely feline effect. Don't go so high that you hit you contour bone. Then push the kohl into the lashline whilst creating a lovely almond shape that connects to wing. Again, softly blend the kohl with a small brush to perfect the shape."
Eye Shadow: "Use a little carbon eyeshadow by MAC, gently brushed over the kohl it gives more staying power and enables you to perfect the shape. You can soften the edges as desired."
Finishing Touches: Use Lancôme's black Ink Artliner to draw a thin line along the top lashes, and then a little dash under the centre of the lower lashes. Several coats of mascara gives real drama. Some cotton buds with a little eye makeup remover can magic away any mistakes."
How to Wear It: "Put on a very sheer oil free base to the rest of your face. You can really play with this look depending on how much drama is required! The secret is keep your base as sheer as possible and perfectly balanced. This way you can have fun with colour on the lips too, from pinks like MAC Snob to vivid reds. It's all about layering and texture."

Beauty Byte: Topshop to Launch Beauty Range

Exciting news girls! Topshop has already rocked our world with affordable fast fashion and now it looks set to do the same with makeup. Back in August I told you about this too good to be true buzz, and now it's here! News emerged on Friday in industry bible Women’s Wear Daily, that the chain will be launching two cosmetic ranges from May. Makeup artist Hannah Murray has been consulting the chain and used the products to create the look for the recent Topshop Unique show during London Fashion Week. She said,

"It’s everything you’d want in a range, but in a bold and confident way. It comes from people who are very passionate about fashion."

The full collection will sell in most major Topshop stores and online, and will include makeup, nail polishes and skin tints. There are plans to update the range four to six times a year with new on trend fashion shades. The store also plans to host pod casts of makeup tutorials from Murray. Some of the shades in the collection include The Big Smoke, a fashion-forward (cement coloured nail polish), and lavender coloured eyeliner. Prices will run from roughly £5 for an eye pencil to £13 for skin tint. Stay tuned for updates and product photos soon!

Backstage Pass To LFW Autumn 2010: Ziad Ghanem

All star makeup artist Rachel Wood really had her hands full backstage at the Ziad Ghanem show on Monday evening. Backstage was buzzing with four different types of makeup looks that included goth (dark lips, pale skin), showgirl (long lashes that were cut from feather boas), K.D. Lang (sexy androgyny) and rocker boy (clean face with smudged eyeliner and big hair). The inspiration for this loud, highly choreographed catwalk show was centred around fantasy. Rachel described it as, "Think John Galliano meets Hoaxton, but even more twisted. The looks are uber-fabulous, crazy and fun."

The 21 models for the show were all street cast. Some were dancers, drag queens, singers and artists, as Ziad wanted real people to showcase his latest collection. The one theme that all of the models have in common were rhinestones on their eyes and the use of eye shadows on the lips. The colours ranged from blues to violets to reds and most of these highly pigmented products were from MAC. However, surprisingly, the sponsors of the show were Dr. Kadir and Per-fekt Beauty so that the makeup artists were free to focus on the best products from different brands and concentrate more on skincare.

FACE: There wasn't a lot of foundation so that skin wouldn't look too heavy and overdone, however, two of the star products used backstage was a Gold Matrix Face Mask from Dr. Kadir that contains active gold particles. Psst...I was told that Madonna loves this product! It was used as a primer, and instead of being removed, Rachel kept in on and just let the gold show through, often adding gold glitter on top. Additionally, Per-fekt Eye Gel was used under each of the models eyes.
EYES: MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer was used underneath the eyes and to cover any outstanding redness. Then, heavily pigmented violet, blue and black shadows were used on the lids and black liner lined the upper and lower lashes. Powderflage from Benefit, one of Rachel's favourite brightening powders, was also used under the eyes.
CHEEKS: Cheeks were kept as plain as possible. Powdery taupe hues were used to contour cheeks and then a touch of shimmer was added in either gold or silver depending on the models' skin tone.
LIPS: A range of eye shadows from MAC and Benefit were used on lips to create a really dense, bold effect.
NAILS: I loved this great pinky-red shade from Jessica Nails in Sexy Siren!

2010 Brit Awards: Fearne Cotton

Happy 30th Birthday Brits! To celebrate, Fearne Cotton came out wearing a long black and blonde low slung fishtail hairstyle with reddish-orange lipstick to match the red carpet.
