If the role of Winter princess was up for grabs, we're pretty sure Taylor Swift would have nabbed it. The country star already perfected gold at this past weekend's American Music Awards, and now she's moved on to shimmery white and silver. The long Reem Acra Spring 2014 gown she selected for the Winter Whites Gala, held at Kensington Palace in London, had a small ruffle on the side and an embellished bodice that rested off her shoulders. She finished off the look with simple accessories, including a Jenny Packham clutch and Rene Caovilla heels. It just might be the epitome of Winter glamour, but is it lacking something for you? In the wake of Miley Cyrus's nude "Wrecking Ball" video, called-off engagement, scandalous VMAs performance, and overall edgier image, an age debate has come into play. Miley herself is among those who explain she's just a 20-year-old trying to have fun. "I think people forget what it feels like to be 20," Miley said in a recent AP interview. The former child star went on to add: "You are supposed to be a mess because you haven't figured it out yet, and 10 years from now I am supposed to have it all together."
Miley feels comfortable with where she is at 20, but how does she compare to other famous women who spent their coming-of-age years in the spotlight? Interested, we decided to look back on what Beyoncé Knowles, Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more starlets were up to at that age. What did their careers look like? Who were they dating? Digging into their pasts to gain some perspective, we're sharing a glimpse of how these successful women spent their 20th year. As part of the starlet time machine, we also hunted down a quote from each celebrity at that age, shedding even more light on who they were at the time. Ahead of Miley celebrating her 21st birthday Saturday, go back in time with a look at these 20 famous faces at age 20.
Poppy Delevingne gave us a chance to ogle her engagement ring, and close inspection revealed it to look a lot like the Anna Sheffield rings we fell for. The wide style with a blue centre and heart-shaped side stones seems like the perfect piece for Poppy, who's definitely the more boho of the Delevingne sisters.
We've already highlighted pink coats as the season's biggest cold-weather trend, but not everyone will love those bubblegum- and pastel-coloured creations. If you're looking for an alternative to those feminine styles, turn your attention to checks and tartans instead. There are so many ways to wear these prints that the options are endless. Choose a bold, bright colour, or stick to a monochrome look. Go big and boyish, or choose slim-fit styles. Or look to your favourite celebrities for a little inspiration. Fearne Cotton wore a slimline red-checked coat with jeans, socks, and sandals; the Duchess of Cambridge opted for a feminine fit-and-flare style; and Taylor Swift put a youthful spin on the look with a duffle coat. Prince William and Kate Middleton joined thousands in central London on Sunday to honor servicemen and women who have fallen in combat for their country. Kate watched Great Britain's annual tribute from a nearby balcony, looking on as Prince William and Prince Harry laid symbolic wreaths of red poppies on the Cenotaph war memorial with their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Queen Elizabeth led the solemn Remembrance Day service, which included a two-minute silence. Remembrance Day, which is tomorrow, is the British version of America's Veterans Day and marks the conclusion of World War I, which ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918.
The ceremony came after a busy week for the royals. On Thursday, Prince William and Kate participated in Poppy Day events, riding a public bus and chatting with volunteers with the Royal British Legion, which sells red poppies to raise funds for members of the British Armed Forces. Red poppies are worn to symbolize the blood spilled in war. Later that day, Prince William scrubbed in surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital as part of his duties as the president of the Royal Marsden National Health Service Foundation Trust.
Cristiano Ronaldo gave fans a real Halloween treat in Madrid yesterday when he showed up to launch his CR7 by Cristiano Ronaldo underwear line at Palacio de Cibeles. The Portuguese soccer star unveiled his ad campaign for the collection — a giant photo of himself wearing the skivvies, keeping it simple — and stood proudly under his own crotch while posing for photos. Cristiano, who is the current forward for Real Madrid, seems to be giving former teammate David Beckham a run for his money with this new brand of briefs. David is also the sexy spokesman for his own underwear line with H&M and stripped down to shoot photos for the Fall 2014 campaign earlier this month. Cristiano likely has David's support for the new venture, as the retired soccer player was spotted checking out Cristiano and the rest of Real Madrid's members as they practiced in LA over the Summer.
Sounds like Robin Thicke's dad, Alan Thicke, was quite the ladies' man back in the day. In Elle's November issue, the singer dished on his dad's single days, saying that the Growing Pains star regularly brought women back to their house to spend time in his indoor Jacuzzi. Apparently it led to some surprising moments for Robin, who said, "The first time I saw a naked woman was when I went to take a shower one morning before school. I was like, 'Who is this girl in my shower?'"
Robin laughed about it, saying that his dad passed on plenty of advice about women. "He was always very intuitive," Robin said. "And very smooth. He didn't really tell me what to do. He told me what not to do, which is actually more important." So what exactly did Alan's advice entail? "We were on vacation, and some pretty girl walked by. I started ogling her like a 12-year-old boy, and he said, 'I know she's pretty, but you stared at her and followed her across the room. What if there's a prettier girl sitting two tables away? Now she's not going to feel special. She'll say, 'You look at all the girls like that.' You've gotta play it cool, so you don't look like you're desperate.'"
Natalie Portman brought a high dose of glamor to the Paris premiere of her new film, Thor: The Dark World, today, donning a Dior dress and posing for photos with costar Tom Hiddleston. Natalie was accompanied by her French husband, Benjamin Millepied, who also walked the red carpet with her at the film's London premiere just one day before. Costars Chris Hemsworth and Kat Dennings joined Natalie and Tom at the London event. Tom wooed the leading ladies by trading photo ops with Natalie and Kat, while Chris walked the carpet solo, and the stars were later spotted out for an afterparty.
The glamorous premiere bashes come after two busy days of press for Natalie, who dropped by the BBC Radio 1 studios Tuesday morning. Earlier this weekend, Natalie revealed that she savored the chance to slap Chris Hemsworth in the film, because it was her character Jane's revenge for Thor ignoring her when he came back to Earth in The Avengers. Chris wasn't the only guy who Natalie got to romance in the latest installment of the Thor franchise — check out a sneak peek from Thor: The Dark World, in which Jane goes on a date with an adorable man played by Chris O'Dowd. Natalie, Chris, and Tom's latest flick will hit theaters in the US on Nov. 8.
Johnny Depp has taken a hair cue from Kim Kardashian and gone blond. The actor debuted his new look at the BFI London Film Festival Awards on Saturday, where his striking new hair almost overshadowed why he was at the event, which was to honor Sir Christopher Lee, with whom he costarred in Dark Shadows and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny's dramatic new look is most likely for his new role in Into the Woods, which is currently filming in England. He will play the wolf in the highly anticipated film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical of the same name.
What do you think of Johnny's new look? Vote in our poll below.
