Do You Agree That Fascinators Are Outdated?

It's hard to believe this is really happening in the world of headgear, but ladies, brace yourselves for a new, updated look at the races and during wedding season this year.

It's hard to believe this is really happening in the world of headgear, but ladies, brace yourselves for a new, updated look at the races and during wedding season this year. Philip Treacy, milliner to superstars like Lady Gaga, Kate Middleton and a multitude of Royals around the world, proclaimed to the The Times, yesterday,

"The fascinator is dead and I’m delighted … The word fascinator sounds like a dodgy sex toy and what’s so fascinating about a fascinator? Mass production means that they became so cheap to produce that now they are no more than headbands with a feather stuck on with a glue gun. We’re seeing a return to proper hats."

It's not only Philip Treacy who thinks this tradition and trend should be dead and gone, it's Ascot too. They were outlawed last year in the dress code guidelines, and this year as well. I guess this means that hats, Alice bands and tiaras are all that's left for us. Do you think that this is really going to be the end of the facsinator?

Philip Treacy's London Fashion Week show got off to a dramatic start on Sunday as Lady Gaga sashayed down the catwalk in hot pink tulle. Inspired by Michael Jackson's tour wardrobe, the headwear Treacy created to go with each Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins designed outfit were just as out there as one would hope. From a jewel-covered mask and fairground rides to Mickey Mouse ears and Alek Wek in a white glove hat, the front row — which included Vivienne Westwood, Sarah Burton, Gareth Pugh, Nicholas Kirkwood, Anna Dello Russo, Kim Cattrall and Kelly Brook — went wild. Ivory ships with sails billowing, planetary rings and sculpted horn hats passed by until a shroud of lighting signalled the end. Take a look at the stunning collection here, and tell me what you think!

London's Statues Get a Millinery Makeover Thanks to Hatwalk

Today in London, British milliners flocked to Trafalgar Square for the launch of Hatwalk.

Today in London, British milliners flocked to Trafalgar Square for the launch of Hatwalk. Commissioned by the Mayor of London in partnership with BT, Grazia magazine, the British Fashion Council and the London 2012 Festival, Hatwalk sees 20 well-known statues across the capital get adorned with new bespoke headwear. Admiral Lord Nelson, Shakespeare and Queen Victoria are amongst the familiar figures taking part in a catwalk of hats designed by the likes of Philip Treacy and one of Kate Middleton's favourites, Sylvia Fletcher. Speaking about his piece for George IV, Stephen Jones told Grazia: "My hat was the last to go up at 4am and I was so nervous that it would fall apart or fall off! It was so complicated to make it to scale, waterproof and stable." See the heawear here and tell me what you think!

Kate Middleton Signs Up Philip Treacy

Kate Middleton has reportedly signed up milliner Philip Treacy to design and create her wedding headwear.

Kate Middleton has reportedly signed up milliner Philip Treacy to design and create her wedding headwear. The soon-to-be royal has already worn one of his designs back in 2006 (pictured here). Treacy created a hat for the Duchess of Cornwall for her wedding to Prince Charles, and she supposedly recommended him to Kate.

It is not clear whether the headwear will be for the daytime or the evening as she is expected to wear a veil to the ceremony. There are reports that she will wear two different ensembles on her wedding day.

Treacy is also expected to create headwear for Kate's Mother. The milliner has confirmed his involvement in the royal wedding, but stated, "It’s a private client so we can’t comment."
