Did you know that it is currently official National Model Week? Well it is, and the event was kicked off by Coco Rocha, so to mark the occasion I will be looking back at some of the biggest models from the 20th century to the current day. Today I will begin with the swinging 1960s, which is one of my favourite eras of history.

Penelope Tree was the IT girl of the 60s, and is often considered to be the very first supermodel. Despite a recent Burberry campaign, where she models alongside, Kate Moss – Penelope has shied away from the press for the last thirty-five years, but gave a rare interview to the Observer Woman magazine, yesterday.
Discovered at age 17, at a party held by Truman Capote, Penelope went on to model for Vogue and become the muse of photographer David Bailey.

Today I continue looking back at classic models as we move on to the 1970s. Obviously, some of the models from the '60s were still a major part of the fashion scene – particularly Lauren Hutton and Penelope Tree – but a few new faces started to emerge too.
