Naomi Campbell has long pioneered ethnic diversity on the catwalk having received a boost to her own career from Yves Saint Laurent. The British born model was part of Italian Vogue's historic issue last Summer, but this weekend she spoke out about how there is still a great “injustice” within the fashion industry.
Speaking at the 4th Annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Front Row Fashion Show she explained, “There is a small group of people whose minds we have to change because we are living in a multicultural society.”
Naomi added, “Nelson Mandela always told me to speak my mind and the consequences will take care of themselves.” She received a fashion icon award at the event which also honoured makeup artist Sam Fine, Oprah Winfrey’s hairstylist, Andre Walker and the late Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson was one of the most influential names in modern music and was particularly ground breaking for his use of videos. Some very fashionable faces headed to Venice yesterday to attend the opening of Francois Pinault Foundation's new contemporary art centre. Francois has a business empire which includes Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent and has collected an impressive art collection with over 2,500 pieces by new artists. His main problem was storing the art (quelle dommage!) and despite initially planning on using a space just outside Paris, he has now settled on a historical building in Venice.

When compiling a list of key models from the 1980s, I found that it was hard to pin point an era for the great supermodels. These are the girls who began work in the '80s, were huge in the '90s and continue to rack up ad campaigns and catwalk miles even today. In 1990 Linda Evangelista (one of the famous five) playfully told Vogue, "We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day", and she wasn't joking!

In 2005 she raised money for victims of hurricane Katrina, in 2007 she dealt with issues closer to home working to raise funds for those affected by the British floods, and now she is planning an event to help victims of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last year.
Working with hotelier Vikram Chatwal, she intends to stage the “Mai Mumbai” (“I am Mumbai”) fashion show as part of Lakme Fashion Week at the end of March.
