Dunhill is arguably one of the most well respected and traditional British labels. Devised in 1893, it began as a motor accessory brand to appeal to the quintessential British gentleman. Before long Dunhill became known for selling all sorts of paraphenalia such as fishing rods, pipes, sporting equipment, stationary and classic motoring gloves.

Buying for a man is never the easiest task, particularly when the man is question is a grandfather who can be prone to be grumpiness. So I suggest treating him to some delectable beauty, sorry, grooming goodies that stay firmly on the sophisticated side of things. Opt for classic leather goods, such as this gorgeous chocolate brown leather wash bag from John Lewis (£65).

If your dear old dad won't be happy with socks and handkerchiefs this Christmas, then it's time to spoil him rotten. Men so often get unimaginative beauty gifts, but I think Christmas is a great excuse to treat your daddy dearest to some luxurious pampering. I'm particularly enamoured with Prada's fresh masculine scent (£47) which my father would wear with his cashmere jumpers —just don't call him metrosexual!

It appears that any stigma regarding men using beauty products has completely disappeared in these post-metrosexual times. After the manscara craze this summer and the recent news that men are as botox-obsessed as women, it's no surprise that this winter British men are in for a beauty treat, all of their own. Selfridges launches Gentlemen's Tonic today; a men only salon with a focus on spa-style treatments and grooming.

Men are increasingly becoming hooked on beauty products because they are unhappy about stealing our moisturiser and wearing their own eyeliner. Now, The New York Times tells how use of botox amongst our menfolk is on the rise. The paper states that Allergan has started marketing botox to men, with the help of Olympic gold medal swimmer Mark Spitz.

While girls wore their hair in cute bobs or wavy flapper girl style, mens hair in the 1920's was super simple. Hair was slicked back with gel for a formal look that was thought to be both masculine and also elegant. Think of The Great Gatsby or the new Brideshead Revisited film and you get the picture.

While British men have been experimenting with makeup lately – cue the launch of guyliner and manscara – it seems in Europe men are getting back to basics with their skincare.
While your opinions are divided about whether you like makeup on men, or not, it goes without saying that we'd all like our men to have good skin.
But, somewhat surprisingly, it's German men, in particular, who are addicted to their lotions and potions.

With the recent launch of Guyliner,– a black eyeliner specifically for men – not to mention celebs like Russell Brand, The Horrors, (pictured), Pete Doherty and Robbie Williams, wearing black eyeliner – the makeup look for men has gone stellar.
I'm all for experimentation where makeup is concerned, whether you're a girl or a guy. Although, personally I have a good/bad list for what I consider attractive on men.

Boys in bands and indie men have been stealing our black eyeliners and smudgy kohl pencils for a while now – whether they're heading to a festival or just hanging out in Camden. The voice of middle England, aka The Telegraph, may be expressing subdued shock at the new 'guy-liner, man-scara' trend, but edgy London boys have been rocking the makeup look for the past few seasons.
British bad boy, Russell Brand is often photographed in eye makeup, although he covered up in dark glasses, for a night out at Boujis, last night.
