The Wolverine Trailer: Has Hugh Jackman Been Declawed?

In the trailer for The Wolverine, we're reunited with Hugh Jackman's X-Men persona, Wolverine/Logan, and this time we're seeing him at what appears to be his weakest.

In the trailer for The Wolverine, we're reunited with Hugh Jackman's X-Men persona, Wolverine/Logan, and this time we're seeing him at what appears to be his weakest. Taking place after the events in X-Men: The Last Stand, this movie finds Wolverine sought out by a man in Japan he once saved decades earlier from an atomic bomb. Out of gratitude, the much-older man wants to give Wolverine a very special gift to end the pain he's endured for years: mortality. Turns out, mortality isn't quite what it's cut out to be when you're used to magically healing (bullets and Samurai swords hurt and stuff!).

Since this is Jackman's fifth outing as the character (sixth, if you count his cameo in 2011's X-Men: First Class), I was hoping to see a fresh angle on the superhero's story or on the character itself. Unfortunately, I don't see too much that's new here, aside from the setting and the lack of other X-Men. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong when the movie comes out July 26, and you can decide for yourself by watching the trailer after the jump.

Ben Affleck Celebrates a Big DGAs Win With Jennifer and More Stars

Ben Affleck had the support of his Antonio Berardi-clad wife, Jennifer Garner, at the Directors Guild Awards last night in LA.

Ben Affleck had the support of his Antonio Berardi-clad wife, Jennifer Garner, at the Directors Guild Awards last night in LA. He took home the night's biggest honor, filmmaker of the year, for Argo. The award could mean big things for Ben's future — the filmmaker of the year winner has historically gone on to win best picture at the Oscars. Last night's awards also brought out many of Hollywood's biggest stars. Anne Hathaway was accompanied by husband Adam Shulman to applaud her Les Misérables director, Tom Hooper, with her costar Hugh Jackman. Sally Field, Helen Hunt, and Lena Dunham also hit the red carpet. Many of the nominees actually began the festivities earlier that morning. Directors Hooper, Kathryn Bigelow, Ang Lee, and Steven Spielberg joined Ben at the DGA President's Breakfast.

The DGAs weren't the first time Jen joined Ben this award season. Just last weekend, Ben and Jen shared a couple's night out at the SAG Awards, where he added to his accolades with an honor for Argo. The pair have much more to be excited about with his best picture nomination at the Oscars later this month — check out Ben and Jen's best award-season snaps so far.

The 2013 SAG Awards had plenty of exciting moments, including Jennifer Lawrence's win for Silver Linings Playbook and Ben Affleck's Argo success. While much of the focus was on the stage, there was still lots of action happening in the audience with stars mingling during breaks and chatting over dinner. Jennifer Garner got up from her seat next to husband Ben Affleck to pose with winner Anne Hathaway, while Busy Philipps met up with Jack McBrayer in between tables. Presenter Justin Timberlake shared a snap with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper backstage, and Jessica Chastain laughed with ladies Kerry Washington and Julianne Moore. Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman brought their movie-star smiles to the SAG Awards tonight in LA.

Ben Affleck and Hugh Jackman brought their movie-star smiles to the SAG Awards tonight in LA. Both Ben and Hugh suited up in dark looks for the big event and stopped to chat on the red carpet. Hugh has a big night ahead of him, as he is not only up for two SAG Awards — outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role and outstanding performance by a cast for Les Misérables — but he will also be presenting at the event. Hugh took home the award for best actor in a musical or comedy at the Golden Globes earlier this month. Ben, meanwhile, is up for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for Argo and brought wife Jennifer Garner to the show. Jennifer wore a gold, sequined gown after also showing support for Ben at the Producers Guild Awards last night.

The Best Highlights From the 2013 Golden Globes!

The 2013 Golden Globes were full of excitement and emotion in LA on Sunday night.

The 2013 Golden Globes were full of excitement and emotion in LA on Sunday night. Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kept the evening light with their jokes and antics, like Amy nuzzling with George Clooney in the audience and the two of them likening Kathryn Bigelow's short-lived marriage to James Cameron to "torture." Other stars also got some big laughs as well, including presenter Aziz Ansari, who pretended to be stoned from Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery's weed cookies. Sacha Baron Cohen gave a mini roast of his Les Misérables costars, when he joked about Anne Hathaway's infamous upskirt incident and sarcastically remarked that Russell Crowe's singing lessons in preparation for the film was "money well spent." Jodie Foster came out while accepting her Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award, moving many attendees to tears.

The show was also full of some big, surprising wins. Ben Affleck nabbed best director for Argo after getting shut out of the category for the Oscar nominations on Thursday, and Argo also won best drama motion picture over Lincoln. Hugh Jackman picked up the best actor in a comedy or musical honor, beating out favorite Bradley Cooper. Most winners broke down into happy tears while accepting their awards, including Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, and Lena Dunham. Lena got particularly emotional while admitting that she had looked up to her fellow best actress nominees when she was younger and that they helped her get through awkward moments. Always quick to add a joke, nominees Tina and Amy joked that they were happy they could get the young Lena "through middle school." Make sure to check out the full list of Golden Globes winners and weigh in on your favorite styles in our red-carpet fashion and beauty polls.

BAFTA Raises a Tea Toast to Award-Season Nominees

Some of Hollywood's most notable names gathered at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on Saturday for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts's annual award-season tea party.

Some of Hollywood's most notable names gathered at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills on Saturday for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts's annual award-season tea party. Silver Linings Playbook stars Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Chris Tucker, along with their director, David O. Russell, walked the red carpet. Hugh Jackman, Tom Hooper, and Amanda Seyfried also posed for pictures outside the party, while their Les Misérables cohort Anne Hathaway chose to make a quiet entrance away from the cameras with her husband, Adam Shulman, by her side. Other stars in attendance included Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Affleck, Sally Field, and Jon Bon Jovi.

We spotted Bradley Cooper chatting with Hugh Jackman, and he admitted he felt a little starstruck by his fellow actor. After Silver Linings Playbook racked up several statuettes at the Critics' Choice Awards earlier this week, it looks like Bradley is a front-runner at tomorrow's Golden Globes, but when someone at today's soiree asked him how he'd celebrate if he won, he humbly dismissed the possibility as "crazy talk." Stay tuned for our interviews with Bradley, Hugh, and more stars at the BAFTA bash.
