The Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney came to a close this weekend, having brought a plethora of eye-catching hair accessories to the catwalk Down Under. From Minnie Mouse ears to playing cards and neon feathers, headwear made a serious statement in many shows. Take a look at the most memorable here, and tell me which look is most fab!
Headturning Hats — The Most Eye-Catching Headwear at Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot has tightened up its dress code this year, but that hasn't stopped racegoers donning outrageous headwear. Ladies Day is the fashion highlight of the event, and the attendees didn't disappoint yesterday in their themed hats, taking in everything from Euro 2012 to the 2012 Olympics. Throughout the week there has been headgear that beggars belief, from oversized fruit and sweets to breakfast plates and multiple umbrellas. This year rules stipulated that fascinators were no longer permitted in the Royal Enclosure, but hats and headpieces with a base of 4 inches (10cm) or more in diameter were acceptable.
The Queen, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and more members of the Royals were more classic in their choices. So were celebrities like Amanda Holden, Amy Childs, Lydia Bright, Katherine Jenkins, Danielle Lineker, Florence Brudenell-Bruce, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, Jacqui St Clair and Kimberly Garner. Take a look at the most eye-catching here as well as the Royal family's more sedate styles, and tell me which is your favourite!
Russian Refinement— See Keira Knightley's Anna Karenina Headgear
The trailer for Anna Karenina has just been released, giving us a good look at Keira Knightley's amazing collection of headwear. The British actress has reunited with her Pride and Prejudice and Antonement director Joe Wright, and the trailer proves the costumes in this adaptation of the Leo Tolstoy novel will be just as breathtaking as those other period pieces. Keira plays the eponymous heroine in late 19th century Russia alongside costars Jude Law and Aaron Johnson, and as the era dictates the wardrobe is full of corsets, petticoats, gowns, jewels and hats galore. Anna Karenina is released on September 7, so to help with the wait take a look at Keira's headwear here and tell me if you think the costumes will be Oscar-worthy!
She Wore Flowers in Her Hair — Follow Keira Knightley and Co's Lead in a Floral Headband

Last night in Los Angeles, Keira Knightley looked like a fairy princess with flowers in her hair at the premiere of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Earlier this month, Ashlee Simpson also donned a floral headband at a preview of Missoni Havaianas 2012 in Beverly Hills, while British stylist Sophia Hesketh embraced flower power in her hair accessory at the Tatler Jubilee Party. This feminine look is the perfect way to bring a touch of Summer loving to your wardrobe as the sun comes out. Shop my picks below and let me know what you think of the trend!
If You Could Dedicate a Room to One Item, What Would It Be?
Dita von Teese loves to accessorise her looks with headwear, so much so that she has dedicated a whole room of her house to hats! She told Vogue,
"I have a huge collection of hats - I have a whole room dedicated to them so that's a lot of hat. You have to be brave to wear a hat. Wearing a hat says: 'I have confidence and I don't mind if people are looking at me.'"
Most of us don't have the luxury to dedicate that much space to clothing, but I would love to have a room full of shoes! This got me wondering, if you could have a room for one item – which item would it be?
Love It or Hate It: Mischa Barton's Furry Hat
Mischa Barton attended the polo in California yesterday wearing some unusual headwear. She wore a long black dress with flat pumps accessorising with a furry monochrome hat. The hat had gold chain detailing which co-ordinated with her necklace. It's great to see Mischa trying something different, but does she pull it off?

10 of the Wildest Headpieces From Royal Ascot
If you remember Eliza Doolittle's debut at Royal Ascot in My Fair Lady, then you know all about this classiest (and flashiest) of British horse races. Ascot is famous for its hats, but these days at the UK race, outlandish fascinators and other wild headpieces are much more in vogue. It kicked off earlier this week, so to celebrate, we've put together 10 of the most creative and dramatic pieces of headgear from the opening day. Check out my favourite ones now.
Love It or Hate It: Grace Jones' Headwear
Style icon Grace Jones took to the stage this week at the Latitude festival. She wore typically eye catching headwear for her performance which included a crescent shaped hat. She actually changed several times throughout her appearance, but this is my personal favourite. What do you think of Ms. Jones' unusual hat?

Freaky or Fabulous: Lady Gaga's "Art" Mask
Lady Gaga is hardly known for her conservative ensembles, and yesterday she proved that she still has the shock factor as she attended a press conference sporting a black mask. When asked about the unusual choice of headwear she insisted that it's, "not just a mask, it's a contemporary art piece". She went on to explain how art and fashion are major influences for her music and her videos. I find it a bit unnerving that you cannot see her face and her expressions as she speaks, but she is certainly pushing boundaries with this unusual item. What do you think of Lady Gaga's arty mask?

Trend Alert: Straw Hats
Over the weekend newly brunette Kate Hudson attended a charity polo match across the Atlantic. She wore a gorgeous oversized straw hat to shield herself from the bright sunshine. It had a wide brim and she added a touch of glamour with statement earrings and oversized sunglasses. See below to copy her chic Summer style with a range of funky hats.
