It has bagged several awards and reported record sales in December 2009. Fashion brands are increasingly turning to new mediums to advertise their wears. Donna Karan has embraced this by creating a short film called Four Play which showcases the brands pleated leather Eldridge bag. The bag can be worn in four different ways and is shown in different scenarios – the dreamer, the paramour, the expressionist and the voyeur.

A few months ago, Sir Philip Green extended the Topshop empire as the first US store opened in New York City. There was a lot of hype surrounding the opening as Kate Moss also launched her latest designs as she posed in a green gown. If you didn't manage to attend the opening, then fear not as MTV were there to document the whole thing.

The most exciting fashion film of the year has to be Coco Avant Chanel starring the gorgeous Audrey Tautou. The French film has gathered a lot of hype throughout it's production owing to an impressive wardrobe and a little guidance from Karl Lagerfeld. We've already seen stills from the film and it is finally released across the UK on 31st July.

Last Summer we sadly lost one of the greatest names in modern fashion history as Yves Saint Laurent died of brain cancer at his home in Paris. His is widely credited with reinventing womenswear and is arguably one of the members of fashion's holy trinity (along with Coco Chanel and Christian Dior). His life and work are so intriguing that French signer Alain Chamfort and songwriter Pierre-Dominique Burgaud are working on a musical about his life.

Designers are increasingly opt for presentations instead of catwalk shows, making fashion films even more important. Just yesterday Gareth Pugh shocked in Paris by not staging a runway presentation (as expected) and instead opting for a video.
This month the Birds Eye View film festival comes to London for the fifth time showcasing the medium and exploring it's use in the world of la mode.

This week another film about Coco Chanel will be released but this time from the heart of Chanel itself. Creative director Karl Lagerfeld has created a silent movie about Coco starring model Edita Vilkeviciute as the young designer.
It will be screened on Wednesday night, along with a showing of Chanel’s Paris-Moscow pre fall ready-to-wear collection.

The world's interest in Karl Lagerfeld never seems to wane. The eccentric Paris based designer is often the subject of great amusement in the world of fashion due to his personal style and blunt comments. However, if Lagerfeld Confidential wasn't enough to satisfy your curiousity in one of the biggest names in fashion then you'll be pleased to hear about plans for another docu-film.

Earlier in the month I reported on the growing importance of film in fashion promotion and advertising. This has been confirmed this season as Prada have commissioned James Jean to illustrate this short film, Trembled Blossom, about their latest collection. This week the short film was screened in LA as celebrities such as Nicole Richie, Nicky Hilton and Brooke Shields turned out to watch it.
