Ralph Lauren has one of the most inspiring stories in the fashion industry. The designer, who grew up in the Bronx, started off his fashion adventure at an early age first working as a tie salesman at Brooks Brothers. In 1967, Lauren launched his own line of ties, then followed up with a complete menswear collection the year after. A few years after, Lauren introduced the world to his now iconic polo shirt with its signature horse rider emblem. Fast forward to present time, and the designer has since swept the world with his classic, effortless, beautiful American designs. In honor of Ralph Lauren's 73rd birthday, we compiled some of the brand's amazing ad campaigns — most of which were shot by Bruce Weber — showing us what true Americana really is. Sarah Burton took the dramatic route for Alexander McQueen's latest set of Fall ads, featuring Raquel Zimmermann. Shot by David Sims, the apocalyptic setting depicts a glowing Raquel wearing Burton's intricately designed pieces for the fashion house. The contrast between the dark (desolate valleys and burnt ashes) and light (Burton's highly artistic designs) surely catches our attention — do you agree? Proenza Schouler just released its Fall ad that is bursting with enough color to remind you cold weather doesn't always mean darkness. The vibrant campaign, shot by Willy Vanderperre, features polish beauty Zuzanna Bijoch wearing some of Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez's most memorable modern tribal motifs from the collection. To complete the chic downtown-girl appeal, make-up artist Hannah Murray douses Zuzanna's lips in a matte red hue and gives her hair a wet-look finish. It might be steaming hot outside, but fashion is one step ahead of us with the latest onslaught of Fall campaigns. The ads show faces like Adriana Lima, Karen Elson, Natasha Poly, and Mariacarla Boscono looking cool-weather ready draped in the best from brands like Balenciaga and Roberto Cavalli. Mulberry took a whimsical approach for its Fall 2011 campaign, featuring Tatiana Cotliar and Julia Saner dressed in pleated silk skirts and warm woolen coats among a colorful backdrop of foxes and birds. The lively setting — Saner was even pictured holding a faux fox at one point — evokes Fall to its fullest, and we like the modern mix of warm colors with a bright pop of Kelly green. Bags took the forefront with a motley group of Mulberry's classic chic styles such as the Taylor satchel and Polly push lock bag. Freja Beha Erichsen is no stranger to starring in Chanel ads — this is her fifth season modeling for the brand — but this Fall calls for even more significance. Karl Lagerfeld shot the ad but the twist comes in with Carine Roitfeld, former Vogue Paris editor, as the stylist.
