The front rows at the Couture Fall 2012 shows in Paris this week were full to the brim with stylish stars, not least our British beauties. At the Chanel Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2012 show on Tuesday, Alexa Chung wore a navy sweater and classic Chanel tweed skirt while Poppy Delevingne went with a white blouse and denim skirt. Over at the Giorgio Armani Prive presentation, Anna Wintour donned a LWD while M.I.A. was in vintage Gianni Versace at the Versace catwalk on Sunday. Which British fashionista was most fab?
Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri showed Valentino's Fall 2012 Couture collection at Hotel Salomon yesterday to a star-studded front row that included Clémence Poésy, Olivia Palermo, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The show, which brought Paris Couture Fashion Week to a close, was inspired by French symbolist painter and "lover of dark colours" Gustave Moreau. Midnight blue plissé dresses and evening gowns in lace and silk chiffon with sheer panels contributed to the nocturnal mood, as did the matching crepe capes. Round and gull-wing necklines topped the ethereal dresses as well as the plainer, fuller satin gowns in scarlet and dusty pink. Many of the jumpsuits and trouser suits that followed were embroidered with gold thread and beads, teamed with brocade sculpted coats and the mini trend of this couture season, attention-grabbing beaded cardigans. The catwalks of Couture Fashion Week in Paris have been full of masked and veiled models at Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani Prive and Maison Martin Margiela. On Monday, Valli took the Garden of Eden theme through the floral clothes right up to the net masks that covered glittery eyes and captured butterflies on the models' lips atop Elizabethan ruffles and pansy print peplums, while over at Dior, Raf Simons' debut for the fashion house saw neon makeup pop underneath net veils in black, yellow, blue and white. On Tuesday, the Giorgio Armani Prive catwalk was awash with beaded, crystal embellished veils that hung over slicked down hair, while bejewelled masks fully covered the models' faces at Wednesday's Maison Martin Margiela show. Elie Saab's Fall 2012 Couture collection, shown in Paris' Pavillon Cambon Capucines today, was full of the elegant femininity one would expect from the red carpet gown master. Inspired by the "imperial splendour" and Ottoman motifs of Constantinople, the shimmering dresses included the pastel shades of his Spring Couture collection but also featured black, gold and teal for the cooler months. The antique, vintage look came courtesy of sheer fabrics, lace panelling and intricate embroidery, with many gowns cinched in with thin belts and silhouettes ranging from full skirts to peplum waists. Plunging necklines and high split skirts were few and far between, instead there were high necks and long-sleeves modelled by the likes of Karlie Kloss. The show-stopper? Cameron Diaz brought out another glamorous look for the Valentino Couture Fashion Week festivities this afternoon. The actress has been popping up for runway presentations since the festivities got under way on Monday. She sat front row at Versace with Diane Kruger and posed with Bar Refaeli at Dior, but it was her stop by Armani yesterday that brought a fun surprise. Cameron and Jessica Chastain were seated together when Jessica received a call about her Oscar nomination for The Help, and the crowd responded with a standing ovation. Cameron took a break from the action just yesterday for a meeting at Givenchy's Paris offices.

Today's Chanel fashion show brought A-list guests to the Grand Palais in Paris. Cameron Diaz continued making the rounds during Couture Fashion Week, and she was joined by Diane Kruger and Vanessa Paradis.
