Beijing has really been in the spotlight this year. Firstly for the Olympics, and now Donatella has taken the Versace empire over there for the first ever fashion show for the brand in China. The charity show took place near Beijing's central Tiananmen Square and raised over $100,000 for survivors of the earthquake in China's Sichuan province earlier this year.

I wish that I could report that Kate Moss was in some way related to the Beijing Olympics but sadly this story holds no link with the current sporting event. That said, I think that Ms Moss should consider designing for athletes with financial aid from Sir Philip Green, imagine how that might look, actual luxe sportswear! Anyway, I digress.

The lovely Victoria's Secret Angels gathered last night in New York City for a viewing party of their amazing fashion show. In attendance was British beauty Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, wearing a dark rose shade of lipstick. Last month we saw her at the reopening of China White in more of a crushed-rose stain colour, and at the 2009 Elle Style Awards her lips were lined in wine hue and filled in with a shimmery pale pink.

I'm sure you haven't been holding your breath for this release, but if the business side of beauty has always been as intriguing to you as it has to me, I think you'll find the statistics of the top 100 beauty company earners of 2008 quite interesting. The glosses, fragrances and pick-me-up eye shadows that we buy to make ourselves look and feel better add up to some serious poundage and have made brands a full fledged fortune. In '08 alone, the cosmetics industry have scrounged together a whopping $168.21 Billion (that's roughly £105 Billion).

Spring couture week kicked off yesterday in Paris with a beautiful Dior show by John Galliano. Giorgio Armani continued the season with his own economy defying collection. Much like Galliano, who referenced the golden age of couture, Armani looked to the thirties for influence referencing another time when glamour outshone financial difficulties.
