Natalie Massenet Talks LFW and Her Must Have Brands

It's a busy time at Net-a-Porter HQ right now, but Natalie Massenet is still managing to attend London Fashion Week.

It's a busy time at Net-a-Porter HQ right now, but Natalie Massenet is still managing to attend London Fashion Week. I spotted the Net-a-Porter founder at Somerset House today and managed to quickly catch up with her about the shows she'd seen and her must have items for Spring.

Have you been to many shows? No, so this is going to be a very shallow interview! My team have been out in force. I have been in the office with the 60 strong Mr Porter team launching the site, which is going live to the public tomorrow (Tuesday). So this has been taking up a lot of my time! I managed to sneak out yesterday to go do some shows, I saw Acne where I loved the use of metalics and Temperley which was lovely. It was really sophisticated and grown up and beautiful. I thought that Matthew Williamson's show was very good, a very strong one with separates, leather jackets, lots of delicious items and a feathered skirt.

2011 Autumn London Fashion Week: Burberry Prorsum

Last season, a few editors dared to criticise Christopher Bailey for using a tried and tested method, but that could not be said of this season.

Last season, a few editors dared to criticise Christopher Bailey for using a tried and tested method, but that could not be said of this season. Outerwear took centre stage as usual with bright coloured wool coats opening the show, all teamed with animal print flat caps. The collection gradually introduced check with '60s-inspired peacoats teamed with skintight trousers with a kick flare. Bailey was obviously influenced by the wintry weather we've been experiencing as there were heavy fur coats. The finale even took place under light snowfall as the models covered up in cute, clear rain macs.

There seemed to be more focus on bags than ever with large bowling totes and small patent clutches being the main focus. There definitely wasn't the same "must have" appeal of previous seasons (the aviator, the biker, etc.), but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Christopher Bailey can sleep soundly tonight with another triumph under his belt!

  • Trends: Heritage, '60s, fur, animal print.
  • Colours: Blue, orange, green, black, white, brown, purple.
  • Accessories: Large handbags with tassels, patent clutch, wedge heels.
  • Key look: Olive green wool coat.
  • Who would wear this: Anybody who likes classics with a twist.

Would You Buy An Item Because It Fit You In a Smaller Size?

High Street stores can be guilty of vanity sizing, because they know how good it feels when you find a piece that fits you in a smaller size. However, this can be confusing and end up with hours spent in the changing rooms trying to figure out the right size in each item. The fit of clothing is certainly an important factor, so once you find a great fit it's hard to put it down. This got me wondering, would you buy an item because it fit you in a size smaller than your usual?

Would You Wear Double Buns?

At yesterday's Topshop Unique show, some of the models walked the runway with black paint on their noses to look like little dalmatians, and their hair was styled in double buns adorned with black velvet bows.

At yesterday's Topshop Unique show, some of the models walked the runway with black paint on their noses to look like little dalmatians, and their hair was styled in double buns adorned with black velvet bows. The look was certainly fun and definitely unique (har, har), but I'm not sure it's something I'm brave enough to bare next season. Would you don a double bun?

Nail Polish

This Dior Polish Is the Same Shade as Their Atelier

Ever wondered what color the Dior offices in Paris's Avenue Montaigne are?

Ever wondered what color the Dior offices in Paris's Avenue Montaigne are? Well, now you can see it for yourself without going to the City of Lights, because Dior's launched a polish called Gris Montaigne (£17.50) that mimics the hue of their famed headquarters. For an exterior paint-inspired shade, it's very pretty, although I also wouldn't say that a mid-gray polish in this family is exactly hard to find, either. What do you think? Would you wear this piece of Paris on your fingers?
