Look for Less: Leighton Meester at DVF

Leighton Meester may be new to the fashion week game but she dresses very well!

Leighton Meester may be new to the fashion week game but she dresses very well! On Sunday she attended the Diane von Furstenberg show in a yellow dress. Despite being quite young, she manages to look very classic and elegant whilst still retaining her youthful appeal. This is achieved through careful accessories choices. The yellow dress could have been overwhelming but she breaks up the colour with a black belt and adds edgy accessories including zip detail heels to make the look more contemporary. Her clutch is by Jimmy Choo but there are plenty of cheaper alternatives on the High Street. See below to copy her look.

On Our Radar: Kate Moss for Topshop Hits Stores

Whatever people say about Kate Moss for Topshop, she must be doing something right as today we see her launch her sixth capsule range for the store.

Whatever people say about Kate Moss for Topshop, she must be doing something right as today we see her launch her sixth capsule range for the store. The continual demand for her designs proves that whether the critics like it or not, consumers still want to copy her world-famous effortless chic style.

As predicted, the latest collection is vintage inspired with '60s style dresses, faux fur boleros and a fringed jacket that Ms Moss has already been spotted in.

Moss continues to grace magazine covers (including this month's Vogue) and even admits herself that she knows what young women want to wear. Speaking the Wall Street Journal magazine she commented, "I've been in fashion for such a long time that I knew what I wanted and how clothes should be. I'm not the sort of fashion designer who goes 'Oh this is going to be the new thing'— I just wear what I wear and girls like that."

Below are images of Kate modeling items from her line, what do you think?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Marc Jacobs Not only was Marc inspired by harem pants — he was into the colors, the cloths, the jewels and the accessories. But for Spring, there were also goofy shoes, mismatched prints, Stephen Jones-designed hats, obi belts, and wackadoodle bags. There was also an elegant '40s feel, and are those shoulder pads I see? The mirror panels up and down the runway were reminiscent of a fun house — a fashion fun house.

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Twinkle by Wenlan

The official fourth day of 2009 Spring New York Fashion Week opened (surprisingly on time) with a show from Twinkle by Wenlan.

The official fourth day of 2009 Spring New York Fashion Week opened (surprisingly on time) with a show from Twinkle by Wenlan. As the sun continues to shine in the American capital of style, Twinkle presented a gorgeous collection of feminine and playful styles similar to styles seen at Chloe. There was a '50's/'60's feel to the collection which compromised mainly of sun dresses and high waisted tailored shorts with the occasional pair of vintage style trousers.

Continuing the trend for body con, Twinkle made the style appeal to "real women" with tulip shaped skirts and fun oversized buttons. Androgynous touches came with suit jacket collars and silk short sleeved tuxedo jacket dresses.

There was a luxe loungewear feel to the latter half of the collection with loose fitting silk jumpsuits. Dressed up, these make the perfect day to partywear for the summer months. Dresses which were fitted at the front with draped panel detailing at the back surely proved to be the most flattering design.

Twinkle designs and creates clothes that women want to wear. They're seemingly simple yet careful pleats and folds reveal the complexities. Such fun wearability leaves me wondering why the label is not bigger in Europe. Watch the show here.

Fab Blab: Roland Mouret on the Fashion Industry

London based designer Roland Mouret spoke to the new Wall Street Journal magazine this weekend about the fashion industry's need to adapt to the current financial climate.

London based designer Roland Mouret spoke to the new Wall Street Journal magazine this weekend about the fashion industry's need to adapt to the current financial climate. He spoke about the changing requirements of fashion and indeed he has already proved his ability to adapt to meet them. For example, earlier this year Roland teamed up with net-a-porter for the second time to sell his clothes directly from the catwalk.

Roland takes a business approach to fashion under the careful guide of ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller. In this article he speaks about the changing face of fashion weeks stating, "There will come a time when the fashion shows as know them will end. That time is soon. Producing a show costs sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars. I don't think the returns justify it."

Designers are getting increasingly more outspoken and Roland is never one to hold back. He spoke out against "it-bags" calling it a "fake trend". He argued that they have no meaning and are just a way to make money. "Designers don't have to work or think about how to make their customers look good with a bag. That's why it's an easy choice." Do you agree with Mr Mouret?
