Kate Bosworth and Winona Ryder couldn't have dressed more differently when they both attended the Homefront premiere in Los Angeles. Kate literally shined in a strapless silver dress heavily embellished with crystals. A metallic box clutch, sparkling H.Stern Moonlight earrings, and silver Christian Louboutin heels only added to the monochromatically gleaming red carpet look. Meanwhile, Winona opted for an all-black Cushnie et Ochs dress sporting diagonal shoulder cutouts. She completed the timeless outfit with a black clutch and heels. Whose look do you think was more successful?
Zoe Saldana and Winona Ryder have recently showed us why the faux bob is such a great style. Both ladies complemented their curled hair with red lipstick and little black dresses, but the styles themselves were vastly different. Zoe's faux bob at the UK premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness was pure vintage, with brushed-out waves and loads of shine. Winona's style, on the other hand, took on a more modern approach. She opted for tousled ringlets with plenty of texture. There is no wrong way to wear this trendy style, but which version would you rather emulate?
James Franco and Zac Posen-clad Winona Ryder paired up for a screening of The Iceman in NYC last night. The costars greeted each other with a kiss when posing with their leading man Michael Shannon on the red carpet. Their thriller The Iceman is out in limited release this Friday, May 3, and is a based-on-a-true-story tale of a hitman leading a double life.
In addition to this film's upcoming release, James has a lot on his plate. He is headed to the Cannes Film Festival in a couple of weeks to screen his directorial project As I Lay Dying and will also be in London in May making Good People with Kate Hudson. Additionally, James will direct and star in Garden of Last Days, a big-screen adaptation of a novel by author Andre Dubus III.
Alexander Skarsgard was joined by his stylish costars at a screening for Disconnect in NYC last night. He wore a Calvin Klein suit as he posed for photos with a Gucci-clad Paula Patton and the beautiful Andrea Riseborough in a Proenza Schouler frock. Elizabeth Olsen and Winona Ryder also dropped by the screening, the latter of which cuddled up with director Henry Alex Rubin on the red carpet. The film, which opens on Friday, April 12, follows a group of unrelated characters who are all connected through their dependency on technology. Disconnect's trailer, which was released in March, earned a bit of buzz for Jason Bateman's turn in a dramatic role.
Alexander will have a full schedule as he heads into Summer. He has the premiere of What Maisie Knew, his new film costarring Julianne Moore, to look forward to in the Spring, as well as the return of True Blood on June 16. If you can't wait until Summer for more Alexander, check out the True Blood season six trailer that was released last week.
Today, we're celebrating Winona Ryder's birthday. The actress might not have had the smoothest journey on the walk of fame, but we still remember her glory years as the cute, goth girl in Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Also, who can forget all the hotties — Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, and Christian Slater to name a few — she dated throughout the years? Before her shoplifting arrest and subsequent disappearance from the Hollywood scene, Winona was one impressive red-carpet regular. We're fans of Winona's work, and we're happy to toast her best looks, and hope she has more in the future.
In the 1988 cult classic Heathers, Winona Ryder (as Veronica) portrays a teen who, along with her completely demented boyfriend (played by Christian Slater), goes on a rampage to end the cruel ways of a popular clique at school. These three girls, of course, are all named Heather, hence the film's title.
Hair and makeup: Blow it up Veronica-style and wear the memorable look Winona Ryder sported at the end of the film; you know, right after her man sets a bomb off on himself. Wear a medium-length, brunette bobbed wig and tease it out with a comb to re-create Veronica's disheveled hairstyle. Don't forget to apply fake blood and ashy-toned eye shadow to your face so that you look like you've just been to hell and back.
What to wear: It's '80s style to the max: an oversize blue t-shirt, short plaid skirt, gray cardigan, and black tights and flats. (See it in full here.)
Take it to the next level: Walk around with a cigarette to show how tough you really are, and slap a red scrunchie in your hair. Be sure to say, "Heather my love, there's a new sheriff in town," as an homage to Veronica's gutsy (albeit crazy) actions.

Gorgeous actresses Leighton Meester, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and Mila Kunis posed on the red carpet at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in NYC last night. Natalie and Mila were joined by their Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, but the gang missed out on the Best Feature gong, which went to Winter's Bone. Leighton's back in the US following her trip to Spain last week, and Anne was smiling wide after it was revealed she'll host the Oscars with James Franco. Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo were also there to represent The Kids Are All Right. FabUK wants to know what you think of Julianne's Lanvin and Louboutin look. Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder, and Julianna Margulies were in attendance too.
Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis attended the LA premiere of their movie Black Swan on Thursday during the AFI Film Festival. Natalie looked stunning in a floral dress by Rodarte, who also created her ballet costumes, as she smiled for pictures with Mila and their costar Winona Ryder. The actresses play arch-rivals in the film, which I caught at the London Film Festival and recommend, but they gushed at the screening about working with each other. Also in attendance was choreographer and Club Monaco model Benjamin Millepied, who is Natalie's boyfriend, though the two once again avoided posing together.

The Toronto Film Festival played host to the Black Swan and Rabbit Hole premieres last night, after the day's press conferences. Nicole Kidman and her hubby Keith Urban walked the red carpet for the latter, before Aaron Eckhart stood on a chair to pose for photos with leggy Nicole, who looked chic in a blue dress. Freida Pinto wore a stunning red dress to walk the red carpet with Dev Patel for Miral, while Rachel Weisz attended her hubby Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan premiere once she had walked the red carpet for The Whistleblower. Natalie Portman was joined by costars Winona Ryder, and Matthieu Kassovitz, but not Mila Kunis who's still filming with Justin Timberlake.

Winona Ryder stars on the cover of the latest issue of Elle magazine, and inside she talks to the mag about her new movie The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee (out July 10) as well as her childhood, acting, beauty and what she describes as her "extra large breakdown". Here's a few extracts from her interview:
- On being bullied:"We only shopped at the Salvation Army, and I would get these three-piece, 1970s little boy suits. I had really short hair, and the third day of seventh grade, these kids basically jumped me in the hall because they thought I was a gay boy, and they roughed me up… I think when that happened, I kind of went into a movie in my head because I couldn’t deal with what was happening. Kids would say, “You’re a witch, you’re creepy, you’re crazy.” I was in the number-one movie in the country and I was still being bullied in school."
- On her ‘extra-large breakdown’: "I had just done Dracula and Edward Scissorhands. I had just had my first real break-up, the first heartbreak. And I think it was really ironic because, like, everybody else just thought I had everything in the world, you know, I had no reason to be depressed, everything was sort of at its peak, but inside I was completely lost. I remember feeling, ‘I can’t complain about anything, because I’m so lucky, I’m so lucky…’ After that I realised I needed to take time off more [regularly]. I’m so lucky because I really love doing what I do. There have been times when I’ve wanted to stop, but it wasn’t forever. It was just like I needed to stop and get my life together."
