The parka is a classic coat style that has been adopted by the indie crowd meaning its worn season upon season. It's perfect for festival season yet it's also snug and warm for the winter.
The parka jacket is defined as,
"A winter jacket with a fur- or faux fur lined hood. Originally worn by the Eskimos, this warm outerwear was adopted for utilitarian purposes before becoming a classic outerwear option for cold-weather protection."
This parka jacket is from Topshop (£75).

The parka may look good on some, but on my 5'4 frame, it makes me look like a dowdy tourist.
1I'm 5'1" and LOVE my snuggly parka.
The secret is not to wear it like a tourist - i.e. not with jeans, trainers and a hoodie. I wear mine slightly over-sized, with cute shorts, tights and biker boots, or even over a glam dress, tights and heels, perhaps even with a beret, for cosy trips out in the evening. The fur collar makes it look glam, and the contrast of styles looks kooky and cool. Also try several styles, some will sit better on your frame than others. Mine was from TopShop a few years ago and is still one of my favourie coats - I can't wait for parka weather every year!
