Once upon a time, spas used to be a therapeutic haven for the tired, stressed, (sure OK) and spoiled, but they were simple ways to indulge the mind and body in a little relaxation.
However, over the past decade or so, they have become a playground for those only who can afford extravagance. Long gone are the days of a reasonably priced manicure, pedicure or even a shoulder massage. Now it's all bout pomp, atmosphere and over the top treatments like live flesh eating fish as a form of exfoliation or 24-carat gold facials.
I for one would love to see price-points at spas go back to a more affordable level so that treating yourself, even during a credit crunch, isn't something that will put you into debt. What are your thoughts on the price levels of spa treatments in this economy?
Victoria's Secret
I believe it's time - maybe not on all the treatments, but at least on some of them! I've never been to a spa as I can't afford it and I would love to try it, even more I'd love to give my mum the experience as a birthday present as she really deserves it and I wish that she could afford to pamper herself with a trip to the spa now and then (not that I would minf tagging along... at all
)
1I love going to spas, but I tend not to get manis and pedis there b/c I think they are way overpriced and not any better than at my local salon. Those could be lowered IMO. I do enjoy the massages, facials and skin treatments though.
2i don't like how they handle skin in spas. they stretch it and are quite harsh. so yeah, i stay away from them, i pamper my skin for it to get less wrinkles whem i'm old, not the other way around.
and have you noticed? neck massages are always done from your face to your collat bone which is the wrong direction for the skin?
3I do think they should be smarter and set their prices according to the times and what people are willing to pay for. They should take advantage that people, now more than ever, are very stressed and would like to relax and be pampered every once in a while. Until that happens, I'll do all my skin treatments myself.
4Yes.
