Selena Gomez, one of the most anticipated stars expected on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet, did us all a favour by showing up early and ending the style curiosity over what she'd wear. The star stayed true to her love of Atelier Versace by picking a white dress from the house accented with zippers and neon tubing at the neck, shoulders, and back. Her black-and-white Balmain jumpsuit featured an intricately woven texture and some serious all-over checkerboard print — which meant she needed only a pair of Givenchy heels and a bold red lip to finish. The (first) Queen of Pop received the top touring artist award, and while she may have skipped the red carpet, her Givenchy Haute Couture outfit was certainly worth the wait. Dressed in some recognizable pieces courtesy of the aforementioned Met Gala, Madonna took the stage in a black fishnet dress, topped with a texturized, cropped, and feather-collared bomber jacket. But the look didn't end there. She wore it all cinched with a grommet-embellished wide belt and finished with thigh-high stockings, which were fastened with a garter belt. As for the last bit of accessories? She also rocked her monogrammed padlock choker, statement sunglasses, and black platform pumps. Did she nail it?

When Beyoncé arrived on the red carpet at last night's Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we thought the show was over: Queen Bey had arrived fashionably late to fashion's biggest night, and she stole the show in custom Givenchy. But just around the corner, Madonna — perhaps the original Queen of Pop — seemed ready to take back her throne. Moments after Beyoncé made her way atop the staircase, Madonna showed up in a look so punk, we thought she might have ransacked the museum's Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition to get all the materials. In the past, punk felt a bit more synonymous with grunge than sex bomb, but last night's Met Gala was ready and willing to change that notion. A slew of starlets stepped out in cutout gowns that flashed patches of skin for a sultry sizzle. Carey Mulligan toyed with the idea in a Balenciaga gown that revealed her waist, while Jessica Alba picked a sparkling Tory Burch number that put the attention front and center, courtesy of open patches above and below the bust. Miranda Kerr showed off most of her top half with a Michael Kors T-bar column dress, and Emma Watson felt the punkiest of all in a Prabal Gurung pick that looked slashed at both the shoulder and waist.
