It's probably not quite cold enough to wear a heavy coat just yet, but it's certainly time to start thinking about buying one. A coat is an investment piece and something you can wear year upon year if it's a timeless style.
A padded jacket may not be the most flattering of coat shapes, but it's certainly the warmest. This season they're everywhere from classic styles at Moncler or Uniqlo to more dramatic shapes like Henrik Vibskov's duvet coat (£469). Also, this week Jil Sander's long awaited collection for Uniqlo launches which includes a gorgeous quilted coat.
You can choose between long sleeping bag styles or a shorter bomber version like Topshop's fold over neck (£60) coat. Will you be wearing a puffa jacket this Autumn?

I have one similar to the one in the main picture that I wore when I was at school. It's huge and is basically like a sleeping bag, I always feel like I look like a maggot wearing it, but is honestly the warmest coat I've ever owned.
1I love these coats. I have an old one from H&M I live in, but have been looking for a new one. They are so comfy!
