Alicia Debuts "Typewriter," Justin Teams Up With Nicki, and Rihanna Wins Then Loses to Chris Brown at BET Awards

The BET Awards celebrated the largest names in hip-hop and R&B with wild fashion, high-energy dance routines, and a mini scandal at LA's Shrine Auditorium last night.

The BET Awards celebrated the largest names in hip-hop and R&B with wild fashion, high-energy dance routines, and a mini scandal at LA's Shrine Auditorium last night. The show kicked off with a mashup of hits from Mary J. Blige before the awards were dished out to the night's winners. Taking a break from touring with Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj joined Justin Bieber to present the best male hip-hop artist award to Kanye West. Nicki didn't go home empty handed as she took home the honors for best female hip-hop artist. Justin was without his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, but he was in the company of pals Jaden and Willow Smith, who stepped out with their parents, Will and Jada, and the siblings shared the win in the young stars category.

The night was full of incredible performances including a medley of hits and the debut of a new single, "Typewriter," from Alicia Keys, who was also marking the 10-year anniversary of her mega hit album Songs in A Minor. Most of the evening went down without a hitch, but there was a critical mix-up in BET's viewer's choice category when Chris Brown was announced the winner, then it was switched to Rihanna and Drake. Turns out Chris was the actual winner, and the error was due to teleprompter confusion, though Drake admittedly felt "awkward" about the error. Chris finished out the evening with four awards while Jennifer Hudson grabbed the win for best female R&B artist and Patti LaBelle was recognized with a lifetime achievement award — get the full list of BET winners here!

Queen Latifah, fresh off hosting the show, attended the event with a brightly-dressed Drew Barrymore, Taylor Swift, Ellen DeGeneres, and Nikki Taylor. Ellen and Taylor seemed to be in especially great moods as they laughed their way down past the photographers with Portia de Rossi. Of course, Taylor had lots to celebrate despite recently splitting from Jake Gyllenhaal — she ranked among the best dressed of the night and took home the favourite country artist honour. Check out the full list of winners! Lauren Conrad skipped out on joining the other lovely ladies on the blue carpet, but she turned out for the beauty brand's bash, as did her fellow MTV starlet Whitney Port.

The biggest sports event in America took place last night in Miami, as the New Orleans Saints played the Indianapolis Colts for the NFL championship. I'm not sure if any of you actually saw the Super Bowl as it was on very late last night, however, today, the news is buzzing with all of the latest celebrity-filed photos from the big night. Stars like Kim Kardashian (whose running back boyfriend Reggie Bush took home the trophy), Queen Latifah and Carrie Underwood, all wore their hair styled in ponytails. Kim's and Queen's were long, slicked back, straight and extended, whilst Carrie's had volume at the crown and curls at the end. We know that most of you wear a little bit of makeup to sporting events, but how do you typically wear your hair?

Stars of the big and small screen got glam for the People's Choice Awards in LA last night. Carrie Underwood won three awards, and Paris Hilton and Jewel won me over with their pretty dresses. Nominees announcer Joshua Jackson wasn't in attendance unfortunately, but there were lots of other gorgeous guys to feast our eyes on.

Our very own Christian Bale picked up a couple of gongs thanks to The Dark Knight's huge success. Other British winners included Favourite Male TV Star Hugh Laurie, and Paul Bettany whose film The Secret Life of Bees picked up two gongs, while Gavin Rossdale presented Kate Hudson with her award. Celebrate Female Solidarity With The Secret Life of Bees

Set in South Caroline in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees is a moving tale about female solidarity in the face of discrimination, based on Sue Monk Kidd's novel.

Set in South Caroline in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees is a moving tale about female solidarity in the face of discrimination, based on Sue Monk Kidd's novel. 14-year-old Lily (Dakota Fanning) is trying to deal with her guilt over her role in her mother's death. When Rosaleen (Jennifer Hudson), Lily's housekeeper, is physically beaten when she tries to vote, the pair run away from Lily's abusive father (Paul Bettany) in search of a safe haven and answers to Lily's questions about her mother.

They follow their only clue, a piece of wood with an image of a black Mary and the name of a town, and find themselves at the pink house of the Boatwright bee-keeping sisters: May (Sophie Okonedo), June (Alicia Keys) and August (Queen Latifah).
