Cleanse, tone, moisturise. That's the skincare mantra we've all digested since our teen years. The actual benefits of toner are somewhat negligible but personally I like using a lavender essential oil to get that extra-fresh feel after cleansing.
To be honest though, it's not like I always do, especially in the mornings. Plus I'm not sure if it makes a lot of difference to how my skin actually looks, although I have friends who are practically religious about toning.
How about you, do you use toner as part of your daily routine?
Johnston & Murphy
Errr I tend to forget most of the time.
1Are there specific toners you'd recommend, Bella?
Avoid toner with alcohol in it, unfortunately lots of the big brands use this. Try a really pure, essential-oil based toner such as Cartrysse lavender toner or their pure rose toner - £12 each.
2I always spray on Dermalogica multi-active (think that is what it's called) toner after I cleanse.
3@Advah: If you are looking for antibacterial toner with essential oils use some with lemongras. Lemongras is supercool, plus it brightens up your mood too. I used to mix my own toner and there is always a bit alcohol involved as a perservative.
4Thanks for the suggestions! Buchababy, I *love* lemongrass, I'll def look into that.
Bella - I just found out the original Cartrysse products come from a place close to where my parents live. And in euros, it's almost half-price!
I'm SO trying their whole range bwahahaa! *evil laugh*
I was using the Clinique Purifying Lotion 1; it was great for the first two weeks and now it's clogging my pores. Which looks like a perfect example of the alcohol in the lotion drying out my skin.
Guess it's better to keep it as an exfoliant and get a real toner.
5I haven't used a toner since.... well I don't even know. does it benefit the skin at all? what is toner supposed to do? I just use cetaphil twice a day and my skin seems pretty good... should I use a toner?
6I always have my friends asking me what toner actually does and I can never really answer them. But I do use it, always, and always have and my skin is really, really good so for me it's an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of thing.
I'm an Origins junkie, and I use their Perfect World white tea toner mostly.
7I just can't be bothered...terrible, I know
8sorbelene then olay - no problem!
