Us Weekly reports that Penn Badgley and Zoe Kravitz have split after almost two years together. The couple, who began dating in the Summer of 2011 and shared an apartment together in NYC, made their last public appearance at the Warm Bodies screening in NYC back in January. They reportedly ended on "good terms" in the middle of their busy schedules, which included work on Penn's film Parts Per Billion and production on Zoe's Divergent in Chicago.
Famed musician Jeff Buckley's story is one that ends in tragedy, but the trailer for Greetings From Tim Buckley chooses to focus on a portion of his life before his untimely death. Penn Badgley plays Jeff in the drama that centers around the 1991 tribute concert he performed in to honor his father, folk singer Tim Buckley (Ben Rosenfield). Tim had passed away years before, due to a drug overdose, and though Jeff agrees to play the concert, he's not completely on board with the undertaking. Despite their physical similarities, Jeff doesn't want anything to do with the memory of his estranged father who he had only met twice.
Badgley is best known for playing Dan on Gossip Girl and his portrayal of Jeff Buckley seems to be a step in the right direction toward meatier roles. I'm less interested in the obligatory romantic angle (courtesy of Imogen Poots, playing a concert intern), but what I do find impressive are the few moments from the concert at the end of the trailer. That is Badgley singing, and guess what? He's not bad. And that's saying a lot because Buckley's soulful vocals are hauntingly unique. Watch the trailer after the jump.
The Dark Knight Rises cast made an entrance at their big premiere in NYC last night. Leading ladies Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard both looked glamorous in white, with Anne wearing a Prabal Gurung gown, with Kwiat jewels, and Marion in a short Christian Dior dress. Their costar Christian Bale was dapper in a suit and vest as he posed with wife Sibi on their way into the event. Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Morgan Freeman, and Gary Oldman were also on hand, as was actress Juno Temple. Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester showed up for the screening but skipped the carpet, while her small-screen costars Michelle Trachtenberg and Penn Badgley both stopped for cameras.
Anne has been on the go promoting her Summer blockbuster ahead of its release this Friday, and to get you ready, we're taking a look back at all The Dark Knight Rises pictures. Anne has made time for her fiancé, Adam Shulman, though, and the duo were spotted showing PDA in Manhattan just last week.
Dianna Agron led a pack of ready-for-Summer stars who attended Coach's Summer Party on the High Line in NYC yesterday. The public park was closed off for the event and filled with carnival games, like a dunk tank and fortune teller's booth. Penn Badgley attended without girlfriend Zoe Kravitz, and showed off a seriously bushy beard. Maggie Gyllenhaal also stepped out to check out the scene, as did Anna Kendrick, Kate Mara, Jessica Stam, Benjamin Walker, and more. Many of the ladies made the rounds carrying pieces from Coach's new Legacy Collection. Anna is hanging out in NYC after a clip from her new movie dropped this week. The Pitch Perfect trailer came out Friday, showing Anna taking a page from Dianna's series Glee and joining an all-girls music group.
The fashion crowd came out for Chanel's Little Black Jacket party at the Swiss Institute in NYC last night. Karl Lagerfeld himself was on hand for the event, as were models Karolina Kurkova, Dree Hemingway, and Linda Evangelista. Penn Badgley made an appearance with girlfriend, Zoe Kravitz. Zoe posed with her mom, Lisa Bonet, as they made their way inside. Lily Collins swung by, as did Pharrell Williams. The fun continued after the bash when Karl hosted a dinner at Balthazar in SoHo with guests Lily, Zoe, Penn, Linda, and others. Check out even more pictures from Chanel's Little Black Jacket soiree.
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley linked up with NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg this afternoon to celebrate Gossip Girl's 100th episode at Silver Cup Studios in Queens. Michael issued a Mayoral Proclamation to mark the milestone for the series, which has brought jobs and acclaim to the Big Apple during its five-year run. Michael and his Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver also announced that 2011 was a record-setting year for small-screen production in NYC. Twenty-three series were filmed there, as opposed to just nine a decade ago. The mayor joked today, "Here's a hot tip for Gossip Girl: Spotted — 100,000 New Yorkers making a living from the film and television industry."
The success of Gossip Girl has been great for Blake's career, but she may have hit a minor speed bump with one of her rumored new projects. Blake might not be in The Side Effects, a Steven Soderbergh project she was linked to along with Jude Law and Channing Tatum. Due to some disagreements among the producers, Soderbergh may have to go with a different leading lady.
Blake Lively wore Marchesa and posed with young actress Chloe Moretz on the red carpet in NYC last night to celebrate her series Gossip Girl making the 100 episode mark! The bash was held at Cipriani Wall Street, and many of Blake's small-screen costars like Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick, and Penn Badgley also attended. Kelly Rutherford and Matthew Settle did as well. The latest Gossip Girl episode was as full of drama and OMG moments as back when the show started in 2007. The Upper East Siders have come a long way since then, though, with recent pictures from the set showing Leighton's Blair Waldorf as a runaway bride! Congrats to the cast on their latest big accomplishment.
Demi Moore wore a slim-cut red sheath dress and towering Brian Atwood heels at the Margin Call premiere in NYC on Monday evening. Demi was solo for the screening, but she kept a big smile on her face and her wedding ring on her finger despite the persistent rumors about the state of her marriage. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have yet to attend an event together since the infidelity stories broke last month, though they were reportedly spotted visiting a Kabbalah center together over the weekend in LA. Demi and Ashton were also photographed camping outside Santa Barbara earlier this month and there were moving trucks outside of their home last week that sparked even more speculation. While neither half of the couple have yet to publicly address the situation, Demi and Ashton are still going about their business. In addition to promoting her Lifetime project Five, he was on his own on Friday at Bill Clinton's star-studded 65th birthday bash.
Penn Badgley is really breaking out of his Gossip Girl mold for his next role: the actor is set to star as musician Jeff Buckley in the upcoming film Greetings From Tim Buckley. The film will chronicle the relationship between Jeff and his father Tim, who abandoned him at a young age.
This is obviously a huge role for Badgley, and the actor expressed his excitement in portraying the "Hallelujah" singer, saying,
To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood & mythologized as a human being... It's something very special and sacred. I'm going to give all I can to this project.
Jeff Buckley fans, do you think Badgley will do justice to the musician's memory? Weigh in!
Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick both suited up to step out socially during the last twenty-four hours, but the costars showed up on separate red carpets. Penn attended a screening of his movie, Margin Call, in NYC last night, after showing off the project at Sundance earlier this year. Ed, meanwhile, left LA and work on J. Edgar to go across the globe to Melbourne to celebrate at an official Grand Prix party today. The duo is clearly taking advantage of their time off from the TV series, enjoying days and nights out on the town.
