Matthew Williamson Spring 2014

Matthew Williamson Spring 2014

Matthew Williamson took us on a trip back to the '70s with his Spring 2014 collection, showing neat belted dresses with long sleeves and collars, a multitude of midi skirts, satin hot pants with high waists, and tunic tops with hippy flower prints. But these neat separates also made way for more familiar favourites: cropped trousers, cocktail dresses, floaty evening gowns, and trouser suits in unexpected brights. Tomato, cobalt, orange, and bronze were just some of the colours chosen for the collection, though the overall palette had enough white, silver, and buttery yellow to feel softer than previous seasons. A 3D flower motif appeared on belted midi skirts and dresses, while the designer revisited an old favourite, the dragonfly, in a red-and-black print on white chiffon for a shirtdress, an evening gown, and a pair of sheer, slouchy trousers.
