Having spoken with Afshin Feiz before, I was already aware of the complex inspiration behind his work. This season his work considered the complex philosophies of Zen. Afshin wants his dresses to be appreciated simply on the merit of their beauty and I think everyone at the show did.

For Spring 2009 Afshin used a palette of pastel shades in light fabrics such as silk and chiffon to create beautifully feminine dresses. He contrasted the light nature of the dresses against chain applique which made the dresses more fun. Cut out sections at times were too much but mainly added to the contemporary feel of the pieces.

Neck lines were high (a common occurrence this season) although carefully placed ruffles and pleats hinted at sexuality. Towards the end of the collection Afshin revealed a few evening gowns which had a classic '50s feel and swept across the floor. They too featured plenty of ruffles.

This was by far Afshin's best collection to date and was part of the off schedule fashion week. Surely with collections like this he is in a great position to be a main attraction for Autumn '09?
