London Fashion Week, Autumn/Winter 2008: Gareth Pugh

6

Last week we reported that the influence for Pugh's A/W '08 collection was the classic movie The Wizard of Oz. Yesterday, the wild child of British fashion took to the catwalk to show off his latest designs. There were speculations that Pugh would be forced to create a more commercially viable collection due to the lack of sales with his usual outlandish styles.

However, it was great to see Pugh stick to what he knows for Autumn/Winter '08. The subtle appearance of emerald green in the collection highlighted his influences. There was a definite urban-warrior feel to the show as a strong silhouette was created with broad shoulders, and volumised skirts. Leather and PVC were present throughout alongside fur and hair.

Make-up was quite shocking but the green blusher acted as a reminder to the original theme. Pugh's friend Agnyess Deyn made a sneaky appearance hidden underneath long brown hair (see if you can spot her in the gallery). She also continued to cover her right eye amidst rumours of an outbreak of conjunctivitis backstage.

Although Autumn/Winter remained true to Pugh's style it was definitely toned down slightly as some of the pieces (including a metal-grey stiff tutu dresses with half-pipe shoulders) were actually wearable! What do you think, love it or hate it?
