Matthew Williamson returned to his hometown last night for the Manchester launch of his exhibition celebrating 10 years in the fashion industry. The event was not short of celebrity support with stars from Hollyoaks and Emmerdale glamming it up for the evening. Matthew's Mother, whom he regularly sites as an inspiration, was also at the event.
At a recent talk with Matthew at the Design Museum in London (where the exhibition has already been shown) he referred to his Mother as his 'muse'. He also explained the difficulty of making it in the industry and maintaining a label.
He was first discovered by Jade Jagger who loved his bohemian designs. He explained, "London is the most exciting place to be, and the most likely city to get noticed but the press becomes jaded and they don't support talent when it gets to a certain level." It is at this point when Matthew moved to New York to make the label more established. Now ten years after launching his label he continues to thrive and is the creative director of Pucci. See below for images from the party.
