Happy Birthday Bob! The the blunt-cut, bob haircut is turning 100 this year. The style, which was first invented in 1909 in Paris by Antoine de Paris (whose inspiration was Joan of Arc), has reinvented itself decade after decade proving that history always repeats itself, especially when it comes to hair. 2008, in particular was a banner year for the bob. We saw celebrities wearing a multitude of takes on the bob ranging from the pageboy bob to the choppy bob, the angled bob, Louise Brooks bob and the hocus-pocus bob.

Mark Coray, VP of the National Hairdressers' Federation of Great Britain, said, "The bob has rocked through the ages with the punks, the mods, new romantics and with pop and television stars. I have been cutting hair for 25 years and not one week has passed where a bobbed hairstyle has not left the salon."
I had a bob when I was eleven. It was just below my chin and was I totally obsessed with making sure it was always perfectly curled under. It looked great, but was too high maintenance for my adolescent lifestyle. Have you ever worn your hair in a bob?

Yes I had a bob last year. it was more that my hair really needed cutting than a style change. It's grown out now and is at that awkward in-between shoulder length. I don't think my face was thin enough to carry it off well and I wore my hair up most of the time. However many of my friends really liked it. I think sometimes it's about whether you're brave enough to do it also! I missed my hair too much and can't wait to have long locks again!
1No way, my face is far too round and it would look awful. Boo hoo! Would love a sleek Louise Brooks style.
2I had one for a while with bangs, it was midway in length between agy and katie. I liked it, but it wasn't "me"
Plus, I just love having a pixie because it's so low maintenance. I always had to straighten the bob and that is just too much work for me
3I had a pob! I liked it, but it required regular cutting.
4I have the Katie bob as pictured above now.
5ick yes, i had mine done at the start of secondary school {before ghds} and as i have naturally curly hair it bouced up and loooked awful, spesh with our weather...., its just too much of a hassle and i love my hair long.
6I'd love a bob too (or a pixie cut for that matter), but my face is way too round.
7I've rocked the "Bob" many times during my lifetime, but I'm always concerned about my round face. I still like it too much, though. I'm actually cutting my hair and getting one today!
8unless you're a little French/Asian school girl, this is the most mundane and lame excuse for a haircut/style.
9Hah I'll have to disappoint you, Poptart Princess. I'm French and I can't remember more than 2 of my classmates ever having a bob.
I actually got a bob for the first time about 2 months ago (I have curly hair, took me a while to be brave enough), and it's one of the best haircuts I've ever had. As the pics show, you can have so many variations on the haircut; I think it would flatter any features. Mine has longer layers/locks at the front, I love it and (not to brag) keep getting compliments on it.
10i was just posting an opinion that i personally think this is a boring 'do, unless you're working a more adventurous colour, so it all balances out. like, blond hair with chocolate brown and pink low-lights. also saw a girl once who had naturally black hair with some really well done variations of blue low-lights in her hair. however, if it works for you or anyone else, that's great. party on with it.
11yup, i had it cut to chin length a week ago...i have naturally straight hair so it sits well.
12yup last year kinda like Katie Holmes and I loved it
13Hahaha Anna
14I had one but then i wanted to grow my hair long so its at that annoying in between stage were i don't know what to do with it!
