The Penkov girl is a Barbarella Sci-Fi fantasy this season. At the Spring/Summer 2009 London Fashion Week show, the girls wore white structured chiffon shifts with high gladiator sandals and swingy hair. Ultra-soft fabrics and sophisticated cuts were combined with traditional craftsmanship for a collection that cleverly integrated hard white porcelain accessories made into decorative body armour.
Jan Przemyk and his team at Toni and Guy whipped up a delightfully retro hair look that was still wearable and modern. He said "The inspiration for the hair was a typical 90’s grunge ponytail with a polished edge. Think of a Go-Go Dancer on her way home!"
Backstage Jan told me how to get that 'Go Go to go' hair style at home. For an easy how-to and backstage pictures from the show just read more:
- First the hair was prepped with copious amount of Label.m Volume Mousse, (£8.95), for extra body and texture.
- Next, rather than being brushed through, the product was worked through and pulled at with the fingers. This gave that dishevelled, rough looking texture that kept the look modern. A slightly fluffy, mussed-up feel gave an undone edge.
- Finally the hair was pulled back off the face into a very high pony tail. It was secured with a simple elastic for an easy grunge feel.
