With rocks on the runway and fog wafting in, 3.1 Phillip Lim went back to the elements for Spring 2014. Water appeared in wave motifs on the bottom of boxy tops, while fire appeared in the flickery edges of moire leopard print. There were plenty of Lim's sharply cut trousers and moto jackets in the mix, alongside loose shift dresses. A new doctor's bag shape appeared for purses with charms hanging sweetly on the outside, for a style that is sure to be a hit.
Phillip Lim's Spring 2012 collection was built around the ideas of geometry, activewear, and kites. Yes, those wispy things we send up to the sky inspired Lim's soft, flowing clothes, many of which ruffled and moved with the slightest breeze. There was lots of silk, from side-slit trousers to delicate dresses with geometric ruffles. There were sporty pieces as well, including tops that looked like they had been cut from a thin rubber (more chic than it sounds), micro twill utility vests, and a bonded leather round collar jacket. The trousers will be a must have next season, done in soft colors like limoncello and lavender for ultimate breezy style. So, too, will be the metallic silver sandals that look so insanely good with Lim's pastel-hued offerings.
- Trends: Sporty, structural shapes, pastels, vests.
- Colors: Soft pastels like limoncello, lilac, and shell pink; tempered with black, ivory, and pecan.
- Key Piece: The side-slit trousers, a black racerback maxi vest paired with slouchy pecan-hued trousers, the shell pink bonded leather jacket, a deceptively simple, but perfect, black halter minidress that floated around the body.
- Accessories: The silver Domina and Nishi sandals are gorgeous.
- Who Would Wear It: The effortless, downtown chic girls loved by Lim — from fashion bloggers like Hanneli to red-carpet stars like Leighton Meester and Rachel Bilson.

Kanye West has long been involved with the fashion world. He regularly attends shows in New York and Paris and likes to keep up to date with what's hot. This week he tweeted a photo of himself wearing leather shorts by his new designer crush Philip Lim. He teamed them with a bright top and jacket creating an eye catching look. Kanye isn't exactly shy, so I think his confidence helps him pull this look off, although I'm not sure that many men could. This got me wondering, do you like it when men wear leather trousers or shorts?Source: TwitPic User Kanyewest

She wore a metallic suit for the occasion which included rolled up shorts and a double breasted jacket. She added a feminine touch with a delicate black blouse and heels. Tess Daly isn't letting her baby bump get in the way of looking a bit glamorous on the red carpet! In fact, she has hidden it quite successfully with a few ruffles on her lovely blue 3.1 Phillip Lim minidress. She teamed it with a pair of killer, strappy heels and a chunky gold bangle. Do you love or hate her look?
This season trousers are very important and they, of course, have a new shape. Somewhere between harem pants and tailored trousers come the carrot leg. Their name comes from the shape as they are wide around the hips and then tailored to the ankle.
They're quite a smart addition to any wardrobe but can be dressed down with a printed t-shirt and a pair of funky flats. Add in a plaited belt for a retro feel.
Topshop have a couple of pairs in different shades from £38 or if you have a larger budget then why not invest in Philip Lim's high waisted style (£325)? Turn them up slightly and wear with a blazer for a smart summertime ensemble.
See below for more examples of carrot leg trousers available now. What do you think of the new trouser shape?
