I know it's hard to think about the summer when it's this cold, but I'm trying to stay positive by looking to future trends. The penchant for harem pants has been hanging around in the wings of fashion for a while appearing on the catwalk at Balmain and YSL for Autumn/Winter '08 but looks likely to be even bigger in the Spring. The Aladdin style trousers have already been worn by Naomi Campbell but are soon to be available in brighter shades. They were spotted on the Spring '09 catwalk at Alexander McQueen (left), Betsey Johnson (right) and Chloe (center) to name but a few.

The trend has now hit the High Street with great options available for under £50. It's best to choose a slightly cropped pair as they will be more flattering and team with a tight fitting top or crop top if you're feeling brave. This exaggerates the volume and balances the shape slightly. See below for some examples available now.

1My cousin (who is so on trend it hurts) was wearing a pair of these with a graphic/embroidery print this past Xmas when I went to visit her. All I have to say is ... after seeing it in person, I'm still not convinced. But I definitely think it could work for some. Read: Agyness.
2Actually, I like the pairs from Warehouse and would wear them in the Spring. So I changed my mind.
3Yeah the Warehouse ones are alright, the higher crotch takes them into slouchy pant territory which is loads more wearable.
I saw so many of these in Barcelona this year, and even on holiday (a time of fashion rule breaking) I was having none of it. Def pass on this one.
4No. Just. No.
5It's something I can imagine myself wearing... Key word is imagine. It's cool if you're a bedouin traveller (which I am in my imaginings and dreams sometimes) but I don't 'get' it for real life.
6harem pants are soo cute on all of those tall skinny girls, but if you're short i think they can be a bit overwhelming...
