Thigh-high boots have always been strongly associated with prostitutes, you only have to take a look at the Pretty Woman poster to see that. However, this season they're being aimed at even the nicest of girls as they're teamed with paisley and jersey dresses adding a subtle yet sexy edge.
Revived label Halston got the ball rolling on the catwalk as they paired a stretch-suede pair with a soft jersey dress (followed closely by Tommy Hilfiger, pictured). These boots, despite being £1095 have already sold out but fear not, there are alternatives! Tamara Mellon of Jimmy Choo spoke to The Sunday Times about their take on the trend called 'Heaven' (which doesn't help to deviate from the stripper link). She explained, "They make women feel strong, confident and sexy. They also elongate the legs."
If you intend to attempt the trend then it is never acceptable to wear them next to bare flesh. Instead team with tight trousers or thick tights and a skirt which finishes just above the boots. Also, approach patent pairs with caution. I'm already lusting after the Bertie version (£125), see below for other options.

I like these, but I'm so short (5'4) they would look ridiculous on me, I think.
1Funny, these have been super fashionable in France for the last 1-2 winters, esp those with the little flap at the front that comes over the knee (I used to call them pirate boots, but Fab's definition showed me I was wrong!).
You'd think they'd look nice, but trust me I've seen them both on jeans and shorts (eeek) - not my style.
2Somehow, I always end up liking the most expensie things - I love the Sergio Rossi ones.
3I think they've been popular for a bit in general Advah, or at least a lot of the 'hipster types' I see around uni have been wearing them for a while.
^oooh really? I never saw them there, so I just assumed it hadn't reached the country. *blushes*
This being said, all you get here is messy bleached hair, hoodies, Ugg and tiny denim skirts.. I think the campus style hasn't changed over the last 3 years!
4Oh, we get that too (the minis, Uggs and hoodies) to some girls it's like a uniform!
5I quite fancy a flat suede pair, but I agree that this look has been around for a while.
