I have been feeling a bit sorry for the new open-toe boot. The footwear of the season has faced a bit of a battering by both the media and fashion lovers around the world for being the most ridiculously pointless item of clothing. Whilst I am in no way disputing that footwear designed for winter with a massive hole in the front seems a tad pointless in rainy old Blighty, since when has fashion been about practicality?
If it was, surely we'd all don festival wear all year round? It rains a lot in the UK so wellington boots are probably the best footwear, a Barbour jacket to protect you from the wind and an enormous wooly jumper for comfort?
In actuality, I think you'll find that when we signed up to this fashion game we agreed to give in to painful fashions, being cold and occasionally looking slightly ridiculous! So here are my top 3 ridiculous 2008 Autumn fashions; open-toe boots, peg leg trousers and sleeveless coats!
Francesco Biasia
J. Renee
DKNY
I sort of love the whole peg-leg trouser look.
1I think I'm the only person on the planet that thought Katie Holmes looked cute, maybe it's because I'm not old enough to remember the trend first time round.
Haha love this new Trend Alert, Fab!
These open-toe boots are horrible..
2This is all so true! Fab, you're funny! What's the point of a sleeveless coat!
3I love the open-toe boots, the trousers and the coat!!!!!!! If you're looking for practicality, just don't buy these! I really love the looks, I have no reason not to wear them except for the trousers because I'm fat at the bottom. Otherwise... I LOVE THESE!! and by the way, it's true Fashion never cared about practicality!!!!
4I love those boots! And their non-boot red metallic counterparts, which are sadly way out of my price range.
Anyone worried about practicality could easily wear them with tights or socks in a contrasting colour.
5Those open toe boots look much more attractive and useful than the strappy sandals with wide ankle covers I saw this summer.
6that's so funny; I must be the only person who hates those open-toe ankle boots/booties - and not because of the impracticality but because I think they are so ugly! I hate all peep-toe shoes, though, but these, in my opinion, are even worse...
7also, although I agree that they are are impractical and sometimes I get frustrated by the fact that I can't find a cute/warm enough long-sleeve shirt to wear under it, I love the short-sleeved and sleeveless coats - they just give your arms so much mobility and they are really cute (especially that McQueen one - he is such a genius)...
