PVC leggings aren't a new trend but they're a left over item from the fetish trend from last autumn which have carried though to this season. They have been spotted on celebrities on both sides of the Atlantic. From Kate Moss at Glastonbury 2007, to Mary Kate Olsen, to Rihanna at the Much Music awards they're always a great statement item. Obviously they're pretty unforgiving but I think most girls would be surprised at how flattering they can look.

Unless you have supermodel-esque legs I would team the leggings with a longish top or coat dress (as seen on Nicky Hilton). I would also avoid wearing them with boots as your risk looking like a dominatrix! A soft knit (seen here on Mary Kate) is a great way to offset the harshness of the leggings. Most of the celebs have invested in a pair of KOVA&T black oxy leggings (pre order here for £85) but American Apparel offer a great alternative with these shiny high-waisted leggings (£32). Have you dared to try this trend yet?

Never would I ever. But MK looks the best here.
1Whenever I even consider wearing leggings or trousers made of leather, PVC or anything similar I always remember that episode of Friends when Ross get leather trouser and can't get them back on again, so no. Although MK and Daisy look cute in theirs.
2swwonder LOL! Love that episode.
I have to say I REFUSE to wear leggings at all. The 90's was enough, thank you very much. And PVC leggings? Terrified!
3Leggings look so right on some people ... and so wrong on others! I personally like wearing leggings once in a while, but I feel self-conscious for some reason, even if I'm surrounded by legging faux-pas!
4I used to have some! I always wore them around halloween.
5swwonder, me too. Haha. I live in a humid area, too, so those would about do me in. Also, there's nothing like shiny + tight to bring on that "stuffed sausage" look.
6I'm wearing the American Apparel ones today, i adore them. Black and shiny also makes your legs look slimmer, and they're so easy under a short dress or long cardi.
7I like that slightly S&M thing they have going on too!
That's funny... I wanted a pair for ages (influenced, admittedly, by Susie Bubble and KoS), to the point of constantly going into American Apparel shops to try on that exact pair for size. Oh I loved them, but I could never justify spending that much money on a pair of leggings! (I feel this way about most AA clothing, actually).
But now I see all the celebs doing it, and seeing the trend take off... it kinda puts me off. Clearly, I'm inanely hypocritical, and I'm ashamed of myself
8i love mary kates! cuz the bottom of the leggings!
9Alas, I love the look but lack the body for it.
