[0]Last week we attended the London College of Fashion Graduate Show [1] and were so impressed with the designs that we caught up with some of the students afterwards to find out about their influences. Kim Taegun produced a line of Belstaff-esque leather jackets and explains their historical influence.
- What was the inspiration behind your collection? The main concept of collection is based on the re-interpret of Korean War through the traditional jocular mask dance. The whole collection is inspired by the story that a war orphan girl took off her father’s military jacket after he was killed in the war and put it on her tiny body. Ironically South and North Korean kept on killing each other since they believed that the war would make Korea a better country. In order to criticize this illogical war, I am inspired by Korean mask dance that is often played to criticize political matter and social problems. On the back of serious looking military leather garments, there are funny mask details, which looks like they are ridiculing the horrible war.
- Did you encounter any problems with creating your line and how did you overcome them? Not really any problems. Maybe finding nice leather. I went to Milan to get leather and took them to Korea for manufacturing. Spent nearly one week on an airplane.
- Which designers do you admire? Christopher Bailey, Alexander McQueen.
- Which person would you like to see wearing your clothes? Keira Knightley
- If you could work for any designer/design house which would it be? Burberry Prorsum
- Any predictions for Autumn/Winter 2008-9?Not skinny any more. Rich and comfortable volume such as coccon dress huge knit coat or dress and more focus on fabric quality. For men? Cuter and cuter.
